NFL Mock Draft 2019 Pre Combine

 

  1. Arizona Cardinals: Nick Bosa, DE, Oho State University: The Cardinals are in desperate need of a stud pass rusher. Bosa is the best edge rusher in this draft. He will instantly make an impact on this D-line. With the Cardinals in rebuild mode, they take the clear number one defensive talent in this draft.

 

  1. San Francisco 49ers: Clelin Ferrell, DE, Clemson: The 49ers need another edge rusher to compliment this defense. Ferrell is a young, strong, and athletic player that will give the 49ers a nice boost to the D-line. He is a rare combination of size and speed that will make him a force to reckon in the NFL.

 

  1. NY Jets: Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama: The Jets have a new defensive coordinator with Greg Williams. The Jets are notorious for taking the best player available. That is, in this case, Quinnen. Williams is one of the best talents in the draft and cannot be passed on here. He has a rare ability that will transition well at the next level. Williams will jump in immediately and help in run stuffing and soaking up blockers to help with the pass rush.

 

  1. Oakland Raiders: Ed Oliver, DT, Houston: Oakland recorded the lowest number of sacks in the league last season after trading away Mack. They need a lot of help on the D-line. Oliver has had some issues off-field, but his talent is undeniable. He is able to penetrate the interior as well as anyone in this draft, which allows him to be effective against the pass and run. Oliver can be the next BIG thing in this year’s draft!

 

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama: The Bucs kept going back and forth on their quarterback situation last season. However, Winston is still their guy and the Bucs will bolster that O-line to protect him. Williams is the top tackle in the draft. He is quick and athletic with great hand skills as well. He will be plugged in from day one.

 

  1. New York Giants: Josh Allen, DE/OLB, Kentucky: We all know that Manning’s career is coming toward an end. However, they have stated that they are committed to him going into 2019. With that being said, the Giants look to bolster their D-line. Allen fits right into Betcher’s 4-3 scheme. Allen set single season and career records for sacks at Kentucky. He was also the Defensive MVP of his conference which is saying A LOT. He has a long frame, he is quick, and he is the pass rusher the Giants have been looking for. This kid is versatile and freakishly athletic. Look out for him to be in the probowl someday soon.

 

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State: The Jaguars are in dire need of a quarterback. Haskins is a classic drop back passer with good arm strength. He has a calm demeanor and shows up in pressure situations. Prototypical Coughlin quarterback. The Jaguars land their future QB.

 

  1. Detroit Lions: Montez Sweat, DE, Mississippi State: The Lions need a pass rusher who can get to the quarterback with consistency. They might be losing Ansah to free agency and Sweat seems like a great fit. He is tall with long arms and will provide the Lions with the edge rusher they need. While there are some concerns over his weight and being able to move the o-line, Sweats technique and athleticism can help him succeed at the next level.

 

  1. Buffalo Bills: Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida: The Bills need to rebuild their offensive line. They fired their O-line coach and are losing some guys to free agency. Taylor is not as polished as Williams, from Alabama, but he dominates the line of scrimmage with his size and long arms. He is able to move his feet well which also helps in pass blocking. Plug him at left or right tackle and he will perform.

 

  1. Denver Broncos: Drew Lock, QB, Missouri: The Broncos need to address the QB situation. Lock is 6’4 and has a very strong arm. He gets the ball out fast and does not have trouble throwing into tight windows. He has been known to be a little inaccurate however but can gain a year of experience, while Keenum is still on the team, before being thrown out on the field. Elway lands his guy here at number 10.

 

  1. Cincinnati Bengals- Devin White, LB, LSU: The Bengals will be very tempted to draft a quarterback here with new coach Zac Taylor in the fold but White is too juicy to pass up at this point in the draft. An ideal fit at inside linebacker in todays NFL with elite athleticism, measurable and intangibles to play in the box and covering tight ends/running backs.

 

  1. Green Bay Packers- Deionte Thompson, S, Alabama: Aaron Rodgers is not getting any younger and they definitely could use another playmaker on the outside but Thompson fills a huge hole in the secondary and takes the place of former Bama safety Clinton-Dix who the Pack traded in the middle of last season.  Thompson will step in as a starter on day 1 and be a big boost to this defense that faltered on a myriad of occasions this past year.

 

  1. Miami Dolphins- Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma: It looks like the Ryan Tannehill era has to come an end and as defensive mastermind Brian Flores starts as the new head coach, Kyler Murray gives the coach, fan base and franchise a spark.  Whatever you think about Kyler Murray as a prospect, this guy is exciting on the ground and in the air.  Who knows how long Murray can last in the NFL but he clearly has the talent and confidence to turn a franchise around.

 

  1. Atlanta Falcons- Jachai Polite, OLB/DE, Florida: The Falcons have a lot of talent on their roster but were ravaged by injuries last year.  The defensive line is a big concern for this team and even though Polite doesn’t have the size, he is a flat out playmaker and the combination of Beasley/Polite will give head aches to opposing quarterbacks for years to come.

 

  1. Washington Redskins- Daniel Jones, QB, Duke: The Redskins thought that they had a quarterback for the next few years after trading for Alex Smith but a devastating injury ruined those plans.  The Redskins cannot enter quarterback hell and take the big bodied, strong armed out of Duke in Daniel Jones.  Jones was coached by QB guru David Cutcliffe and has all the necessary skills to be an effective starter in this league, not as exciting as the other QB prospects in this class but maybe the safest.

 

  1. Carolina Panthers- Cody Ford, OL, Oklahoma: The Panthers need to keep Cam Newton safe if they want to get back to competing again and Ford will able to step in from day one and help out the often battered Cam.  Ford is a huge body who will be effective in the run/pass game.  Most likely starting on the inside but has the potential to kick outside.

 

  1. Cleveland Browns- Marquise Brown, WR, Oklahoma: Baker Mayfield was an absolute godsend for this perennial bottom dwelling franchise and its time to continue to stack weapons around their talented quarterback. Baker will get to reunite with the speedy playmaker Brown and is a natural fit due to their chemistry and play making potential together.

 

  1. Minnesota Vikings- Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson: An absolute steal at this time of the draft.  Wilkins is an extremely talented player who is a leader and knows how to win.  With the uncertain future of Sheldon Richardson, this pick makes so much sense for a Mike Zimmer run team.

 

  1. Tennessee Titans- D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss: Unfortunately injuries hampered this extremely talented athletes college career but his measurable and talent are unquestioned with the potential to be a true number one receiver. Corey Davis has talent and with Metcalf in the fold may be able to become more consistent and these two on the outside will cause havoc for all defenses.  With Mariota at QB the Titans need all the firepower they can get.

 

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers- Devin Bush, LB, Michigan: We all want Shazier back on the field but that is no guarantee and Bush has the talent/pedigree to replicate the production that Shazier put on the field.  Bush was a force at Michigan and has the potential to join a long list of legendary Steeler linebackers.

 

21. Seattle Seahawks- Rashaan Gary, DT, Michigan: The Seahawks have an impending free agent in Frank Clark, and while Jarran Reed is solid they could use some fresh young talent on the Defensive Line. Enter Gary, an awesome athlete with a great burst, with a lot of traits that you just can’t teach. I’ve seen top ten mocks for him before which seem a bit rich -- questionable motor and durability concerns -- but he has the tools to warrant a first round selection

 

22. Baltimore Ravens- Chris Lindstrom, OG, Boston College: Love this fit. While the Ravens offense handled the transition to Lamar Jackson and a running first system well, the Offensive Line was exposed during a playoff loss to the Chargers. Lindstrom doesn’t do much wrong, and has an impressive combination of size, technique, and movement skills to warrant a first round selection. Watching Lindstrom, I turn back the clocks to Chris Snee, a BC alum who were both equally as impressive in the college ranks.

 

23. Houston Texans- TJ Hockensack, TE, Iowa. A do-it-all TE prospect, Hockensack can come right in and play at a high level for Houston from day 1. It is very hard to find a weakness to Hockensack’s game, I think observers have worked to manufacture a few, like he doesn’t have elite deep speed, or agility. I’m not buying it. While the Texans may have larger needs on their OL, they look at their big board and see too much value with Hockensack at this spot.

 

24. Oakland Raiders- Brian Burns, DE, Florida State. Burns is an excellent edge prospect that could arguably go much higher than this. High football IQ, excellent speed and burst, and great degree of versatility with his moves and ability to play standing up or from the three-point stance. The one interesting thing about this Raider combination of Oliver and Burns is that they are both somewhat undersized, so the Raiders will have to look elsewhere for space-eaters, perhaps already on their roster in midseason addition Jonathan Hankins. But they bolster the rock of their defense with some much-needed speed and playmaking ability

 

25. Philadelphia Eagles- Byron Murphy, CB, Washington. I think the Eagles run to the podium if Murphy is around this late. Some very talented offensive playmakers time and again in the NFC East, the Eagle secondary struggled mightily last year and needs some reinforcements. Enter Murphy, who has unbelievable stickiness in man-to-man coverage, fluid hips and quick intelligence to diagnose and make plays. The Huskies have a solid tradition of producing NFL-caliber corners, and Murphy is next-in-line.

 

26. Indianapolis Colts- N’Keal Harry, WR, Arizona State. As you can see with this mock, given team needs before them, the Colts should have a nice opportunity to have their selection of WR prospects, with players like Hakeem Butler, Deebo Samuel, or JJ Arcega-Whiteside vying for this selection. Harry is ultimately the pick, with an impressive combination of speed and size (6’3), great hands, and YAC ability, he’ll be an ideal fit next to TY Hilton.

 

27. Oakland Raiders- Nassir Adderley, S, Delaware. I would not be the least surprised if Adderley is chosen closer to top 15, so I think this is an excellent value for the Raiders. Adderley has unbelievable range, quickness, and closing ability. The only real question mark is the level of competition Adderley faced, which could bring him to slide down to a slot like this. Heck of a get for the Raiders here.

 

28. Los Angeles Chargers- Dalton Risner, OL, Kansas State. Masterful hand technique? Check. Nasty, punishing demeanor? Check-plus. See his play against Montez Sweat for those that think his level of competition was weak. A versatile lineman who’s best fit may be on the inside, Risner could be the foundational offensive piece that the Chargers are missing to elevate an already electric offense to an even higher level.

 

29. Kansas City Chiefs- Jeffrey Simmons, DT, Mississippi State.  Simmons is a disruptive interior lineman with elite size and burst. A top ten pick before tearing his ACL, the injury and a 2016 domestic assault case have brought questions to his first round candidacy all together. I think the Chiefs are in a good spot to afford a long-term investment in Simmons, who could pay big dividends assuming a full recovery.

 

30. Green Bay Packers- Jerry Tillery, DT, Notre Dame. Tillery is an excellent interior DL prospect who enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Irish last season. Before this last season, his label was an underachiever, so he needs to sustain his motor and consistency from last year, but if he can he will mold into an excellent force. Tillery joins a nice stable of lineman alongside Kenny Clark and Mike Daniels.

 

31. Los Angeles Rams- Mack Wilson, LB, Alabama. Wilson is a kid that has all the Mike LB traits in the world but hasn’t quite developed the instincts to bring it all together. This is a nice spot for him to play in front of one of the best defensive fronts in the game and learn under Wade Phillips to hone his craft and develop his playmaking instincts to propel his game forward.

 

32. New England Patriots- Noah Fant, TE, Iowa. When it’s all said and done, both Hawkeye TEs make it into the first round. Fant is a great athlete that will add a dimension to the offense even if Gronk is still playing, and can be in the wings for when Gronk decides to hang it up. We all know how much Brady appreciates and targets this position in the pass game and Fant will be the next beneficiary in a long line of them.

Many would not be, but I'm good with Ferrell at # 2, if Bosa's gone. He's a better fit and option than is Allen or Gary, and beyond Bosa, there's just not drastic difference in value for the rest of the top guys.  :)

C or D for the Falcons i don't mind the position as DE, DT, or OL is a good pick.  But Polite is going about a round to early for me i see him as a late 1st to early 2nd round guy and for sure not in the top 15.  Much rather have Wilkins at DT there or if not him then Lawrence or Ford.
