WHO ARE YOU WATCHING IN THE 2019 NFL COMBINE?

The combine is coming upon us this weekend. Which players and/or position groups are you most interested in seeing? Do you have any predictions for players that may surprise or players that may disappoint? Do you have a sleeper player that we should all be keeping an eye on?

This is just a list of the position groups and a few guys that I'm keeping a particular eye on during the process. There are some guys that I don't expect we'll add (due to draft position and/or need). Feel free to share your own thoughts or lists.

QB

We aren't likely to wind up with our QBOTF through this draft. Stafford is the guy for at least another 2 years. I expect that we'll bring in a late round/UDFA guy to compete with Cook for a developmental spot.

Guys that I'm watching: Easton Stick, Jordan Ta'amu

RB

I'm interested in mid-to-late round (5-7) guys to sub in for KJ and replace Blount as our power back. Riddick's replacement could also be in this mix

Guys that I'm watching: Rodney Anderson, Damien Harris, Darrell Henderson, Justice Hill, Elijah Holyfield, Miles Sanders, Jordan Scarlett, LJ Scott

WR

We need a future playmaker opposite of Golloday. Depending on what they plan to do with Marvin, this could go several different ways.

Guys that I'm watching: Hakeem Butler, Parris Campbell, Jalen Hurd, Andy Isabella, DK Metcalf, Riley Ridley, Deebo Samuel, David Sills

TE

This is one of our top needs and I expect the team to add two guys from this draft.

Guys that I'm watching: CJ Conrad, Noah Fant, TJ Hockenson, Dawson Knox, Alize Mack, Josh Oliver, Irv Smith, Kaden Smith, Jace Sternerger, Kahale Warring (I might as well have just listed the entire TE group - there are a lot of guys that I expect the combine will help to separate out)

OL

I fully expect that we'll be addressing the OL within the first three rounds in some capacity.

Guys that I'm watching: This list is starting to look like the TE list, so we'll just leave a couple to start: Bradybury, Benzschwael, Deiter, Ivey, McCoy, Jenkins, Pierschbacher, Little, Udoh

DL/EDGE

This is our top need IMO regardless of what happens with Ziggy and/or Flowers (unless somehow both guys wind up on the roster).

Guys that I'm watching: Too many really to list: Zach Allen, Rashan Gary, Ed Oliver, Quinnen Williams, Omenihu,

LB

I expect that we'll address this position within the top half of the draft. We could just as easily take Devin White at #8 or a guy like Dakota Allen in the 3rd or 4th. Our pass coverage struggled in the position so I expect to focus on how they do in those drop back drills.

Guys that I'm watching: Devin White, Devin Bush, Dakota Allen

CB

The Teez Tabor experiment has not been a good one. The Lions are going to need to fill a couple spots here but I also don't expect them to throw a rookie into the fire. As a result, I expect that we'll address the starting spot opposite of Slay through FA. We'll likely draft someone in the later rounds (5-7) with the intention of developing them into contributors.

Guys that I'm watching: Blace Brown, Hamp Cheevers, Lonnie Johnson, Amani Oruwariye, Joejuan Williams

S

Walker was drafted and rated out nicely by PFF. However, the sample size is small and there are questions on whether he can sustain that with an increased workload. I expect that we'll add a vet FA and then draft someone to also contribute.

Guys that I'm watching: Nasir Adderly, Chauncey Gardner Johnson

I'm really wanting to see the wr group..

There are some sleepers late there imo

Db speeds

Really curious about Farrell and Gary really wanna see who can separate themselves in this dl group

And I really wanna see this unicorn te...

Hakeem Butler has been training with Megatron. (Butler) reminded me of (Calvin) when I was watching one of the highlight videos. It wasn't anything too indepth so I could be off but that was my initial impression. There are likely some 2nd and 3rd round guys that will wind up being playmakers. I really want to see how David Sills does. I expect him to be a mid-round guy that winds up being fairly productive and having a lengthy career as a solid WR3.

Deandre Walker (Georgia) is another guy who could be a viable option for us.

I'm definitely intrigued about this unicorn TE you're mentioning. I don't know how a helmet will work with the horn and that seems like it might cause them to be a bit top heavy.

Any 5-7th round guys that you have your eye on?

Walker is more of a name for me at this point. I haven't watched much on tape to see how I feel about him at this point. Justice Hill, RB, Oklahoma State was popping in the tape that I watched yesterday on Dakota Allen. I kept seeing #5 breaking off a play and had to wonder if that was (Hill). He has more of an Abdullah type build at 5'9 and 190 lbs and isn't a big receiving threat (Riddick) so I'm not sure how he fits in with the team. Either way, it was interesting to see a guy pop out on film while watching for another guy (who plays on the opposite side).

Just watching Ubosi now - looks like a decent prospect.

Yeah, Hill is small... which is the only downside.

Got my eyes on all positions. QB could be a target at the end of the draft, will need to find a potential backup there. Need to find a future replacement for Theo Riddick, some seemingly good options this year for that. Going to need some help in the slot at WR, a mid-round pick is very possible. TE should be an early target, definitely looking very hard here to see if anyone stands out in testing (Dawson Knox could surprise). Always gotta have an eye on the OL with Bob Quinn as GM. DE could be a big need depending on what they do in free agency, the measurements here will be big, particularly the weight and wingspan. DT could be a late-round option to get some depth behind Da'Shawn Hand, Byron Cowart and Michael Dogbe are two guys I think fit the mold. Off-ball LB could be a need purely for depth or they could be looking to upgrade over Christian Jones, really need to pay attention to everyone here. JACK LB could use some depth behind Devon Kennard, pass rush specialists could prove to be good fits with good testing (I don't think they replace Kennard this year, feels more like a next-year priority). Definitely going to be needing some help in the secondary. Need a boundary CB opposite of Slay and need someone to play in the slot as well (could be a CB, CB/S hybrid, or just a S).

It would be awesome if they could get him in the 4th round. Great talent that's being overlooked because he doesn't directly fit into every team's base defense.
