He still had three MVP candidates in his lineup. Baker also had substantially better starting pitching. Gimme a break. Nationals are leading the league in WAR on the DL. Murphy was hitting .333/.389/.568 at this point last year. We were talking about Zimmerman winning a triple crown at this point last year. We were talking about how Bryce winning another MVP was gonna mean a 400+ million dollar contract in 2019. But Dusty got a trash bullpen ... Dusty dealt with a far worse bullpen until the all-star break and he sure as hell didn’t have the benefit of Herrera. Martinez has sucked. This is Matt Williams and Manny Acta all over again. And in exchange for Eaton, Martinez has lost significant time from Ryan Zimmerman, Daniel Murphy, Matt Wieters, Matt Adam's, and Howie Kendrick. Apparently, he isn’t pushing the right buttons which is something vet managers like Davey Johnson and Dusty Baker did when the team was in a funk. You really think Long hasn’t had a negative affect on this teams hitting? Or the fact that Martinez has absolutely no idea when it’s time to pull a pitcher.
