Bill James was an interesting read. While I don't believe that baseball can be managed strictly by the numbers, I do believe that managers are misunderstanding stats in today's game.

Was a nice day to be at the park, and it didn't rain either.

Jeezy Fanatic
We can’t hit for anything, but pitching has been good and we’re chugging along. 3 games above 500, 2.5 back of the Braves

Nationals hitters need to harden up and start hitting. Murphy and Eaton ain't coming back for a while. None of this treading water nonsense. They need to man up.
lavar703
While I hated the Eaton trade at the time, Giolito has been so bad that the injuries to Eaton somehow are still better than what Chicago got in return. Eaton is a hell of a player when healthy so hopefully this surgery clears things up and he’ll be back next year ready to go.

Giolito had some huge question marks. There is still a ton of talent, but he simply can't seem to throw strikes at the MLB level. He nibbles. He doesn't trust it.
Jeezy Fanatic
On another note, at age 20 Juan Soto seems like a complete stud. The future looks bright in the outfield with him and Robles

Skinsin2013
Stevenson can't hold Robles or Soto's jocks. The Robles injury looked awful. Glad he avoided a major injury. My kiddo plays travel ball and when he dives running in on a ball I cringe. Soto has been unbelievable this year. He's been through three minor league levels and has raked at each. Well, he's only 9 ABs in to AA ball... 1 HR though! How good is Mad Max? The Eaton injury perplexes me. I think this was the FOURTH specialist he's been too... it took a FOURTH specialist to figure out what was wrong with him. WTF?
turtle28
Quote PHOENIX — Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo pulled out his phone to read the diagnosis exactly. He didn’t want to get it wrong. Like so many following the frustrating saga of Adam Eaton’s injuries, the GM thought the outfielder would be playing by Thursday night. It took three doctors and an exploratory surgery to find out why he won’t be playing any time soon. After two MRIs and a bone scan showed no explanation for the lingering pain that turned an awkward slide into a weeks-long absence, Eaton underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle Thursday in Green Bay, Wis. Robert Anderson, an orthopedic surgeon for the Green Bay Packers, discovered a chondral flap in his ankle that was irritating the ankle canal whenever Eaton moved. “Each and every time he got out of the immobilized boot, there was consistent pain. So what Dr. Anderson and Dr. West and Dr. Schon decided was, they were going to do an arthroscopic surgery,” Rizzo said. ” … The good thing is, there was something that needed to be done for him to rehab at 100 percent.” Anderson removed that flap — effectively eliminating a cartilage tear, in layman’s terms — and the Nationals’ understanding is that all of Eaton’s once inexplicable symptoms now make sense. They have established no timetable for a return, and know only that Eaton will have to keep weight off the ankle for a week before moving into a short walking boot. Then he will begin rehabbing again. The team does, however, expect him back this season. Edited May 12, 2018 by turtle28
