Welp, so much for signing Frank Clark. I think Graham is worth about 9 mill per season. He's basically a run stuffer who occasionally gets pressure at this point in his career.

Simply not true and this article  was before the season was over (Nov).

In Graham's case, sacks have always been hard to come by...but the defensive end does get to the quarterback. He has 37 quarterback hurries and five quarterback hits on the season, not to mention he leads the team with 21 run stops.

Graham only has three sacks this season, but has the second most pressures on the Eagles with 46. He is second in the NFL in hurries and eighth in pressures amongst edge defenders.

Call me crazy, but I want sacks. They're field position altering, game changing plays. Sure he's getting 'hurries' but show me stats on what actually happened with those throws. They could have all been completed for all we know (obvious exaggeration) . The way we rotate the d-line, I've loved having Graham part of it for the last few years, but if his inevitable decline continues he'll just be taking away snaps from players better suited to get to the QB.

I think stuff like this helps illustrate just how inept DL stats are. They don't allow you to get a clear picture at all.
We'd have to go back and watch the games to truly decide.

From watching him, he had a down year. Was obviously not a 100% for the 1st half.
But it wasn't quite that he fell off the face of the earth.

He had the 4th most pressures of an edge guy. with 70 pressures.

In a defense that is built to channel guys back into the monster in the middle (Cox), did a lot of what was asked of him.
Cox doesn't have a career year like this year without Graham and Co bringing it on the outside.

I think it matters where you place the blame for why of those 70, 9 were hits and 5 were sacks.

Was it age like you are saying?

Was it his injury holding him back?

Was it the awfulness of the secondary for large parts of the season? after all the difference between a hurry and a sack can be less than a second sometimes.
After the injury, I personally think this had more to do with the shrinking numbers than anything.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between all of them. He's always been more strength and technique, so I don't think slowing down will be a dramatic effect on him.
Especially here were he gets rotated to stay effective.

I don't think it was a feel good charity to keep him around, he's still a very effective player. The got him lower than other comparable guys and get to keep the consistency.
Our DE situation could've gotten real scary, real quick. At the very least we know we got Graham there to solidify the spot for these two seasons while the rehab and develop Barnett, Sweat and hopefully another young guy.

You watched all of our games, right?

What did the eyeball test tell you? Without reading that article, would you have said Graham was getting tons of pressure all season? Because he seemed invisible out there to me for large portions, aside from getting consistent run stops. "Pressure" is a pretty vague term.

This in my opinion and general concerns pre and post contract. He just doesn't seem to appear on tape disrupting the game. and our run defence wasn't anywhere near as good this year as it was last year. and now we've added a pass rushing specialist next to him on the line...

agree, and your clip shows why. I was hoping a while back he would be UFA and the steelers would sign him, but of course that never happened. He's better for a 4-3 end anyways, glad he got his career to where I thought it would.  He never let injuries or chip kelly ruin his career .

Sacks are the single most overrated stat in the history of sports.

It's a stat that has Fletcher Cox not even a Top 3 DT in the NFL over the past 5 years, which he clearly is. Has DE's like Beasley, Babin, Burgess, Boulware  deemed a Stud in the making when they got 15+ one year and a scrub the next.

Its the equivalent of a 80yd splash play by DeSean only to watch him disappear the other 98% of the game as decoy. But hey he was 3 for 105 TD!!!! No one remembers the players who "Hurried" the QB into making a bad decision, forced a throw, missed  a converted 3rd down and or into a INT. That goes unnoticed or seen by the masses as suggested above.

Give me the player who is more disruptive throughout the game all day long. Glad he remained a Eagle!
