Upvoted comment on the situation via Reddit: You can get various shots (cortisone, viscosupplementation ie hyaluronic acid, experimentally stem cells) for temporary relief. You can try microfracture to stimulate cartilage growth. But it literally means the protective lining of the knee is gone. This is going to be a chronic problem. From what I recall, this is what did in Malcolm Mitchell. PS Stem cells are experimental for a reason. There isn't a double blind controlled trial that has demonstrated clinical efficacy. So if you hear/see someone offering stem cell treatment for several grand out of pocket, you are just helping fund their car/kid's college fund. Oddly - though it sounds bad - the science of the operation has gotten better and better and its becoming as prevalent as hip replacements (well, maybe not as common as hip replacements...but you get the idea). Not sure what this means for him next year other than he's probably not going to get the ball 20+ times a game. I wonder if he'd contemplate giving the game up now entirely, probably not. I think this coupled with the fact they missed on Jared Goff in the draft. The kid doesn't have, "IT", that was obvious in the Super Bowl. Looking the they are a one year anomaly. at this point. Dude just led the league in touchdowns for consecutive seasons and probably could have done the same with YFS if he didn’t miss time. There was nothing wrong with the contract. Gurley was definitely worth that and he’s only 24 years old - no reason to think, at the time, he would fall off before the end of the deal. This is just bad luck for the Rams.
