Yes, I can blame him, because Crabtree was in the same situation and embraced his role.

I can accept a diva WR if he is producing like Odell Beckham or Antonio Brown, not when he's a nobody like John Brown.

Crabtree did what now?.. Im sure he was super pleased with 135/1 in 7 games...

Neither Brown nor Crabtree publicly complained about their role. John Brown is a small WR, wtf is he supposed to do in a primarily blocking role? Why would he want to stay here and play that role? It's a bad fit all around.

I vaguely remember him saying something during the season that sounded like complaining but I don't blame him for it.

He almost certainly signed for the Ravens thinking that he'd catch a bunch of long bombs from Flacco, rebuild his stock and then try to parlay that into a longer term deal for more money because his market was comparatively depressed by his poor final season in Arizona, only to have that yanked from him half way through the season.  I think it is acceptable for a WR not to want that

Absolutely agreed all around. And to his credit, when Flacco was playing QB for us, Brown was producing and was a monster at times - so it's not like he wasn't good. It's just when the philosophy changed, it's unfortunate that his skillset wasn't really utilized any longer (which is kind of strange because you'd think teams would end up stacking the box MORE against our run-heavy sets, allowing Brown more deep shots, but whatever).

Yeah but this is football. You think it is acceptable for a guy to quit on his team because everything didn't pan out perfectly for him?

That's BS. ESPECIALLY since the Ravens were winning with Lamar. Those guys you want to weed out before you ever get in a foxhole with them. Its a cancerous attitude.

If he did that then I agree that that is the sort of player you don't want on your team. The difference is that I don't think he "quit on his team".

Yes, I was agreeing with DiamondBull's post, where he said:

Dude was soft and broke down as the season went on. He didn’t want to go over the middle or make contested catches. He absolutely should not see any energy from us. Flacco went down and Brown abandoned ship. He can join Flacco in Denver for all I care. Good riddance.

If you don't agree, that's okay. John Brown never said anything publicly, but he stopped going after tough catches and displayed terrible body language on the field IMO. That's how I saw things shake out.

Yup. The film doesn’t lie. I could care less what a player says in front of the media. If I still had access to the All-22 (I’m not as involved as I used to be) than I would rewatch the tape and supply the plays where Brown is short arming passes that our other receivers would attack.

Snead and Crabtree both attacked balls thrown by Lamar. Crabtree has crappy hands and that affected a lot of their opportunities, but his effort was there not only as a blocker, but also there as a receiver going after catchable, but not accurate balls.

And the point @AngusMcFife is making about not being in a foxhole is accurate. John Brown is a deep threat specialist. That’s true, but there are enough deep threat options, including Chris Moore and Jordan Lasley as options already on our roster. Guys who show questionable effort and toughness are the losers that completely tank once the team is doing poorly. They’re cancers who at best are role players and are at worst destructive locker room presences.

He’s a soft deep threat (doesn’t like to go over the middle), he’s got a known injury history, and a lack of mental toughness. Hard pass.
