GMENNATION
Don't feel like working this morning so taking a couple minutes to do a 53-man roster prediction! Let me know your thoughts: QB (3): Eli Manning, Geno Smith, Davis Webb Analysis: I don't see any value in carrying Josh Johnson over Geno Smith. He's 5 years older with less starting experience. Take a chance with Geno. RB (4): Paul Perkins, Shane Vereen, Orleans Darkwa, Wayne Gallman Analysis: No surprises here. I don't see how they can put Draughn on this roster without him showing anything in the preseason. There is nobody else who has a reasonable chance. FB (1): Shane Smith Analysis: You saw his value on the Darkwa TD vs. the Jets. Our OL is not good enough to make these RBs successful. A true run blocking FB will help. WR (6): Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, Sterling Shepard, Dwayne Harris, Tavarres King, Roger Lewis Analysis: Giants need to carry six, especially with some injury concerns. I'm a believer in Roger Lewis. I don't think he has starter upside but I believe he's a nice contributor with ST ability. Travis Rudolph had a nice night against the Jets but it was against the Jets. Let's not overreact. He has a lot of developing to do and we can't afford to have that happen on the 53-man. Hope he makes it through waivers and onto the practice squad. TE (4): Rhett Ellison, Evan Engram, Jerell Adams, Will Tye Analysis: The popular thing to do is cut Tye for LaCosse but I don't see the value in doing that. LaCosse has shown that he can't stay healthy. What are we looking for in a 4th TE? Depth who can contribute on ST and step in if we have injuries. I'd rather have the guy with starting experience. OL (8): Ereck Flowers, Justin Pugh, Weston Richburg, John Jerry, Bobby Hart, Adam Bisnowaty, Brett Jones, DJ Fluker Analysis: I'd love to find a spot for Chad Wheeler on here because I believe we are desperate to retain some project OL that have upside. However, I believe the Giants again have to hope that Wheeler clears waivers and makes is to the PS. OFFENSE (26) DE (6): Olivier Vernon, Jason Pierre-Paul, Avery Moss, Romeo Okwara, Devin Taylor, Kerry Wynn Analysis: I believe they keep 6 because they are all valuable contributors. I this this comes down to Taylor vs. Odighizuwa for the extra pass rusher and Wynn vs. Williams for the extra run stopper / interior swing man. Taylor wins out because OO hasn't been able to flash and Wynn wins out because of his experience in the system / ST play. DT (4): Damon Harrison, Jay Bromley, Robert Thomas, Dalvin Tomlinson Analysis: This is the easiest group to predict. They are keeping four guys and they are keeping these four guys. It's likely only three dress most games but you can't only have 3 DTs on your roster. One goes down and you're in a mess. LB (5): Jonathan Casillas, BJ Goodson, Devon Kennard, Keenan Robinson, Calvin Munson Analysis: This may seem crazy but I have the Giants only carrying five linebackers. I just couldn't fine another position where I'd be willing to cut an extra player. In today's NFL, defenses are in nickel so often that they can get by with 5 LBs. It came down to Herzlich vs. Thomas vs. Munson. It would be too risky to try to get Munson to the PS so Herzlich and Thomas are the odd men out. The Giants have shown great loyalty to these two over the years but their run has to come to an end at some point. Munson will replace them easily on ST. The risk here is depth at LB because I don't believe he is truly ready to see regular snaps. Just can't risk him getting snatched up by another team. CB (5): Janoris Jenkins, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Eli Apple, Michael Hunter, Donte Deayon Analysis: Kind of by default at this point, and that's not a good thing. Top 3 are as solid as they come but also come with injury concerns. The depth behind them is scary. It's very possible Deayon's spot ends up going to a veteran cut by another team. S (4): Darian Thompson, Landon Collins, Andrew Adams, Eric Pinkins Analysis: Pinkins only makes this team over Berhe due to his versatility. He has value on ST and becomes the de facto sixth LB. Berhe is a talent but has struggled to stay on the field. Pinkins provides more value and more positions and that helps him make the team. DEFENSE: 24 K (1): Aldrick Rosas Analysis: It would be silly to not give the kid the job. He has hit pretty much everything since Nugent was signed and Nugent is a dime-a-dozen. If Rosas struggles to start the season, Nugent or multiple guys like him will be ready and waiting for a job. P (1): Brad Wing Analysis: Nothing to add here, move along! LS (1): Zak DeOssie Analysis: It's pretty crazy how long he's been on this team. No competition this time around so the job is his. SPECIAL TEAMS: 3 TOTAL: 53 It's tough to let guys like Nat Berhe and Mark Herzlich go along with some other guys who probably deserve to make a team. It goes to show how good of a roster Jerry Reese has assembled. Yes, the OL is a glaring weakness but overspending on OL would have made a lot of these other positions weaker. If we can stay healthy this year, I really believe we have a legitimate shot at a SB. This defense is the real deal and with a few things breaking our way, we will be watching this team in late January. Let's get through Thursday and then get amped for Dallas! Gmen
I don't think we really need Will Tye's skillset anymore. He's an okay receiving TE, and I haven't seen him stand out on special teams. I don't think we will carry 4 TEs. Player for player trades are rare, but it would be nice if we could trade Kerry Wynn for a backup offensive lineman. I would take Rudolph over King. There was a huge void at WR last year and King couldn't fill it. He's not that young anymore. Rudolph isn't big or fast, but he is crafty.

It is interesting you mention a Kerry Wynn trade, because I think that is a possibility. Belichick was looking at him this offseason before he signed his tender and the Pats did just cut Kony Ealy. There could be interest there. The only WR Rudolph could make the team over is King, and that is because King offers the least on ST compared to Harris and Lewis. If King doesn't get healthy soon with his ankle and Rudolph has another strong showing in the final preseason game, it may be hard to justify keeping King over Rudolph. A few weeks ago I thought keeping 4 TEs was a given, but with the emergence of Shane Smith, I'm not so sure. If one of the 4 is the odd man out, I think it has to be Tye. He'll catch on somewhere else though if he is cut.
Kodaraw
Browns are fielding trade calls for Cam Erving. Lions just cut Cyrus Koujando. Wonder if we look at them and/or any OL cuts.

May not fit new scheme. Their may be a younger guy that can take over. Plus, good to our OL and good to any other team don't seem to be the same. minutemancl
Joe Greco got cut. He is a player to look out for, as he can actually play and has experience at 3 OL positions.
