WindyCity
I love this signing. 1. The Bears were 32nd in KR average last season, it was pathetic to watch. I know KRs in general are down, but why not have someone who average 2x the KR average that you had. 2. The Bears special teams was not good enough. Patterson is a 6'3" 220lbs gunner who runs a 4.3. That gives them a core special teamer for kick coverage as well. 3. He is a matchup nightmare. Nagy loves to run the reverses, jets sweeps, WR screens, and run WR routes out of the backfield. Patterson is a super sized dude that can do all of those things. The Patriots showed a ton of interesting ways to use him and have him line up. He is a legit runner out of the backfield, imagine being a LB and Patterson releases on a seam route? You are screwed. 4. Speed was lacking on the offense, even if it is gimmick speed, when he is on the field you have to respect that he can run by most guys. 5. A big part of what Nagy does on offense is to befuddle, stress, confuse the defense with formations and personnel. Now he has another awkward to deal with chess piece like Cohen. That is something any offense can use.
dll2000
I ran a lot of these looks at lower levels. What really adds to these offenses is a little vertical option (RPO) off fly sweep. Stops S/LBs from crashing down. So as soon as a Patterson or Cohen get ball on a motion handoff everyone is coming downhill hard at angles and filling cut back lanes. You don't have to be a QB to flick a ball over their heads 6 to 8 yards downfield. It can be a lob. If your motion player has an arm you have one deep player too. You have a deep player anyway and nobody ever leaves him alone or they won't twice, but unless that guy is wide, wide open you never throw that pass. You have a backside player cutting across and a frontside player blocking and releasing to flat. You just pick the open one and its a big play if they don't cover it. If they do cover it, it is really hard to stop run without dominant and fast DL beating blocks and running down play It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't play. All RPOs are basically vertical option plays. They work much better at lower levels because QB is more of a threat to run and gives a man advantage over NFL offenses trying to run same plays. This one works really good without the QB run threat and doesn't take QB talent to execute.

Nothing I’m looking forward to on offense lol

He's listed at 6'2"/230lbs so he's built more like a RB anyway.

Unless Bears find a gem in draft I would expect his use to be bit higher with Bears in backfield.
BEAR FACE DOWN ARROW
If CP gives us an extra 5 yd average on KR that's worth it right there, it's like getting bonus field position like you do with a good punter. And like Windy said, last year was not good.

Averaging 12 yards per catch when he is catching screens.

Reduces Cohen's time on kick returns, which is okay, but also reduces Cohen's usefulness to the team. Makes you wonder if they're going to be stupid and cut Wims, though. Puzzling stuff. Why would they cut Wims? I believe Patterson will function as the 5th WR, KR specialist and occasionally out of the backfield. WR Depth: Robinson Gabriel Miller Wims Patterson They will still need a 6th.
abstract_thought
He's basically replacing White but offering a lot more special teams value.
