Wide receivers coach Darryl Drake was the man of the ground for the Steelers at the Arizona State pro day on Wednesday, seen talking on the sidelines with N’Keal Harry.

Quote

“Running backs coaches from the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens were on hand for Memphis’ pro day, and so too was Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Randy Fitchner.”

Quote

“The New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers are showing a lot of interest in Savage, who will be a top-75 choice.”

“While I understand the Panthers’ interest, as I previously posted the team will load up on safeties in the draft, the interest from the Jets and Steelers surprised me. The Steelers took a safety in the first round last year, while the Jets took two safeties in the top 40 picks in 2017. I was later told the belief is that Savage could transition to cornerback, so the interest from the Steelers and Jets made more sense in that light.”

Cherry picked list.  Lets just look at EDGE rushers since no one is suggesting Winovich  is a ILB.

Winovich  VJ 30.5  BJ 116

Justin Houston VJ 36.5  BJ 125

Jason Worilds VJ 38  BJ VJ 116

DeMarcus Ware VJ 34.5  VJ 113

Jerry Hughes VJ 34.5 BJ 114

Montez Sweat VJ 36  BJ 125

Broad Jump and Vertical jump show explosiveness.  The issue I have with Winovich  is that he is not explosive. How many EDGE rushers are very good without being explosive?  His 1st step is slow.  He is all technique and motor.  Thus, 3rd round.

Jason Worilds was all about his first step.  It was amazing.  After that, he did not know what to do.  If Winovich  had Worilds 1st step he would be a top 5 player.

There are reasons why they make these players do the same tests at the combine that have been done for 40+ years.

I like Miles Sanders a lot. Alize Mack is interesting too. I'm not a huge fan of Isabella. I like him as a prospect, but I don't think he moves the needle enough to warrant a draft pick for us. I think he'll do good things in the league, though.

Rapp is an interesting choice as a SS.  Not sure if they need a SS.

Yea, I like Rapp, but he's too similar to what we have (although he's a great tackler).
Seems to me we need more FS types to add to the mix vs SS types.

I personally think Edmunds was supposed to be a $lb in a 3 safety look until Burnett fell apart.

I see Rapp only ran a 4.77 40 at his pro day.  Ouch!  Maybe he falls into later rounds after that.  Maybe the Steelers look at him as a $lb.
