2 RD MOCK 3/16/19

The Eagles have six CB's.
They are all 25 or younger.
They all have experience.
They make a combined $14M with one player making 60% of that.
That is the current state of affairs.
A rookie CB, no matter how touted, is not going to change that.

The Eagles need two DT's.
They can't pass on them unless mad DT's are going to fall out of the sky in the later rounds.
One caveat:  AJ Brown and N'Keal Harry are guys who could make them rethink their priorities.

The second round picks here are actually decent.

Brown/Harry -> Montgomery -> Simmons, maybe?

Also Rasul Douglas is a good player he played really well last year and should easily be the other starter.

9.     Buffalo Bills – Devin White ILB LSU

Might surprise some people but the top OT's are off the board so Buffalo completes their LB group. Edmunds can be moved to OLB.

But why? He doesn't need to be moved and wouldn't make a better OLB than MLB in the Bills scheme. Passing on Josh Allen or Ed Oliver would be dangerously bad.

Harry in round 2 is good.

Approve for the Lions. Not 100% sure on Greedy. Looks decent but idk about that high (i think he's a little hyped up) he just a little thin and dont want a guy that will get hurt right away. I do like Oliver right after. Lions did get Ebron a few years ago and Donald was like next pick. Would hate to see something like that happen again. LOOOOOVE THE RAPP Pick. Like going WR. Wouldn't mind going Bush in rd 1 either. Murphy the CB looked good too. also like campbell from OSU at WR in the 2nd (late) thanks for the mock!

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense from a Lions perspective. Josh Allen is probably the one guy that they would choose over trading down, so taking a trade down where they have to send back their 3rd probably wouldn't be enough to pass up the guy that is probably at the top of their board. Greedy isn't good enough against the run and is a risky style of player who will likely give up some big plays, so he isn't a fit for what the Lions look for at corner. Taylor Rapp makes zero sense for the Lions. They have their long term starting safeties in Tracy Walker and Quandre Diggs. Tavon Wilson, Miles Killebrew, and Andrew Adams will provide depth for them at safety. There is no room for a player like Rapp. Bob Quinn won't waste a 2nd round pick on a player who has no real path to playing time. Taking a WR in the 2nd also doesn't make sense for the Lions. They have their starting WRs in Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones. They signed Danny Amendola to play in the slot and Brandon Powell looked promising at the end of the season, likely earning a spot as the final WR on the roster. A 4th or 5th round pick at WR with an eye on special teams makes more sense for the Lions.

If you want to keep the trade down, you should have gone TJ Hockenson in the 1st, ideally a small trade up for Julian Love with the first 2nd, and then one of Chris Lindstrom/Erik McCoy/Dru Samia with the other 2nd. Staying at 8, taking Josh Allen, and then trading down in the 2nd/drafting a guard in the 2nd would also be very good.

Bugs the ever loving crap out of me

Is it bad to have saftey depth? Walker and diggs can cover and be match up guys. Diggs tends to get banged up and walker is just unknown as a starter at saftey. Pretty small sample size just to anoint him.. And it isn't unheard of to have 3 safeties out there

Every lions draft is so need based for all yall..

To GB: 16th ovr + 78th ovr

To CAR: 12th ovr

12. Carolina Panthers (from GB) – Josh Allen EDGE Kentucky

There is always that one player who drops in the draft as a result of some trade ups. Allen trips out of the Top 10 and Carolina jumps all over him. GB would have been the perfect candidate for a dream pick up here had they not invested their FA in picking up Preston and Zadarius Smith to be their EDGE rushers.

16. Green Bay Packers (from CAR) – TJ Hockenson TE Iowa

A decent trade down for GB opens them up to grab a guy who has been impossible to mock. People have him going as early as 7th ovr and as late as 32nd ovr. Well here he is somewhere in the middle to a team that makes sense.

We have arguably a top 5 prospect in this year's draft, and we trade down for a 3rd round pick?  No.  We run that pick up to the podium in a heartbeat and don't think twice.  And it's worse we trade down for a TE.  Hell no.

30. Green Bay Packers (from NO) – Marquise Brown WR Oklahoma

They did such a good job addressing their defensive needs in FA that it opened them up to give Rodgers more toys.

That would break about a decades worth of history with the smallest WR they've ever drafted.  Don't see them drafting Marquise Brown.  Nasir Adderly [S; Delaware] or Dalton Risner [OT; Kansas State] make significantly more sense here.

44. Green Bay Packers – Chris Lindstrom OG Boston College

They have a good group of tackles and now get a starter for their interior o-line.

Not sure the Packers draft an IOL this early, especially since they signed Billy Turner but I like the value.  They'd probably grab Courtney Gardner-Johnson [S; Florida] if they grabbed Risner earlier, or they could potentially double-dip and grab Jachai Polite [EDGE; Florida] here.

It obviously isn't bad to have safety depth, but they already have depth there and spending a 2nd round pick on backup safeties isn't a winning strategy. Of course, there is the potential for them to run 3 safety sets, but with a slot corner as talented as Justin Coleman in the fold, that gets reduced to dime-package situations (i.e. less than 20% of the time). Spending a 2nd round pick on a role player is also not a winning strategy.

The reason why I focus on needs so much in mock drafts for the Detroit Lions is pretty simple: it's what the actual Detroit Lions do in the actual draft. Under Bob Quinn, they have consistently and aggressively targeted immediate needs with their 1st and 2nd round picks. Anything other than that is not going to be predictive of what the Detroit Lions will actually do. I don't see the issue in speaking about that. The point of commenting on peoples mock drafts is to give them feedback, and @wcf1989 clearly put some effort into this so I thought he deserved good, thoughtful feedback.
