Rapoport: Chicago is a Destination

Recommended Posts

Ian Rapoport was on Bernstein and McKnight last week [March 14th] and was talking about Chicago,

-Chicago is a destination for free agents

-Players are very high on the culture

-Players love the vibe of Nagy and Pace

-They have a reputation in the league of being straight shooters and of looking after there players

-Offered Callahan a really good contract at the end of the season, the Bears did not feel they could continue to wait on Callahan to decide

I think most of us suspected they pursued Callahan much harder than they did Amos so that makes sense.

Pace was simply not willing to risk losing both Callahan and his Plan B to replace him once FA began so he made Callahan's mind up for him.

Eddie Jackson talking C-Dix into coming here on a 1 year deal for half of what Tyrann Mathieu got from Houston last year is another indication of how much we've grown as an organization with Pace and Nagy running the show.

I also listened to Adrian Amos' interview with the GB media and you could hear a little remorse in him that it didn't work out for him $$$ wise in Chicago.

We're no longer a team where WRs or anyone else come to die.

To be fair I think any team with a threshold of talented players is a destination for guys looking for 1 year prove it deals or just want to win.

So much easier to look good with multiple good players around you in a team sport.

Everybody raids good teams and good/decent players on bad teams often get ignored.

To add to my last post it isn't like Chicago has the best facilities, weather or night life.

Not that those things are horrible, but its current state of team that is attracting people.

Miami which has all those things, aside from facilities, would have to overpay for players right now.

It's not shocking, it's what always happens when the team has a winning culture.  It's a world class city.  It's the charter franchise, it's a great fanbase, and unlike NY and LA, its not a split fanbase.  It truly is a bears town.  Now we have a young energetic coach and GM, and owner that's willing to open the checkbook (seriously, not enough is talked about what's going on at HH right now). This has the makings of a great team for years to come, and we wont have the challenges teams like GB and Pitt have in trying to convince guys who want to make themselves marketable brands to live in an afterthought of a city.
