malak1
Easy deal to make if you’re the Angels, tbh
The Gnat
Damn, that's a huge deal. Definitely deserved. I also like to see players who are going to spend their career with a single team.
kgarrett12486
If there was any player deserving of this insane commitment, it would be him... 12 years is forever, but you're getting at least 6 years of still prime realistically... Wonder if there's an opt out..
hrubes20
Damn. Looks like Trout's prime will indeed be wasted.
Thelonebillsfan
Easiest deal ever, and yet he's still underpaid.

Thelonebillsfan
Just now, malak1 said: Is it? What should he get? Why? Serious questions. He'd have easily gotten $40M AAV on the open market. Probably a 500-550/12 year deal. He's having, so far, the greatest start to a career in league history. And nothing signifies that he's going to fall off before he outpaces any potential deal. tom cody
Nice keep for the Angels here, guy is probably the best player in the league right now. Hope they surround him with the proper talent to get him a World Series win.

The fact that he'd be coming into FA right before the strike year probably motivated this deal as much as anything. Get the security now instead of having to deal with an ownership group 100% intent on dropping player salaries to improve the initial negotiating position. Not sure he would've gotten the 12 years. Seems like teams want to go higher AAV on shorter term, or longer term with lower AAV. They're reluctant to cave on both, but who knows with Trout. He kind of a different case than all others... If he hit the market I could've seen him getting 10 years, $450-475 million

Mookie Betts HAS to hit the market now, though.
