Roster cut down time

Recommended Posts

It's that time of year. Teams start cutting players to get down to that final 53 man roster.

Lions waive Cyrus Kouandjio

The Detroit Lions signed Cyrus Kouandjio on the final day of minicamp. On the day of the team's final practice of the preseason, the offensive tackle was cut.

Kouandjio had been brought in to compete with Greg Robinson for the starting left tackle spot after Taylor Decker had shoulder surgery. That competition never really materialized, though. Robinson took over the top role by the end of the first week of training camp and never relinquished the role.

He missed a few days of camp this preseason due to injury and on Monday, Lions coach Jim Caldwell mentioned Kouandjio's health when he was asked about his performance.

Do you think this opens a spot for Lucas/Norton?

Surprise roster stay?

Also, a source told ESPN that the Lions will keep Kasey Redfern as the punter because Sam Martin is expected to start the year on the non-football injury list. Martin (ankle) has not punted or been spotted at practice all preseason.

Redfern has played well this preseason. I actually don't mind this move, especially if Martin is not 100%.
