Onside kicks are basically a relic of the past now because of the running start rule but thatrule has already been in place. That rule you can claim was an attempt to soften the game, not this one. This is just a rule to give a trailing team an option.

INbengalfan
Hate the concept. Would be more on board with it if there was no automatic first downs on a defensive penalty. Move the ball 5 for holding and 10 for PI and retry the down.
Vikes_Bolts1228
Onside kicks should be 100% dead. They're a waste of time now that teams can't kill whoever touches the ball. All it is now is hoping for a lucky bounce of a prolate spheroid. 53 onside kicks in 2018, 4 recovered (7.5%). In 2017, the year before the running start was eliminated, 13 of 60 attempts were recovered (21.7%) Mathematically, if you watch 100 onside kicks, only 7-8 are recovered. Who wants to watch a play with a 7.5% success rate? 57 minutes of skilled play (passing, blocking, tackling, catching, running, kicking) shouldn't come down to the luck of the bounce. rudyZ
Just give them a first and goal from their own 40 and go for a hail mary...
kramxel
Not Fan of 4th and 15, but watching onside kicks after the rule change is way worse. Something should have been done.

Ty21
I didn’t expect it to pass but I’m still relieved to see it didn’t lol. It was a strange idea in the first place, a team shouldn’t be given the ball unearned for s&g’s lol
Eagles23
instead of an onside kick teams should try kicking it semi deep in the middle of the field and hope one of your guys get their first
