Smart

That is going to make him very popular with then Bears brass. If he can convince Fangio to stay, it would be a lot like when McVay closed the Rams job by  bringing in Wade Phillips.

Lots of Flip buzz in Chicago

Question is, why would Fangio want to stay? Getting passed up yet again for the HC job? At some point isn't it a slap in the face? Fangio might be able to get a HC job somewhere else.

Obviously he would take a HC job, but reasonable to stay

1. money

2. Total control

3. He built a top 10 defense, where is he going to inherit that?

What I don't understand is why Fangio isn't even being considered for the Bears HC job. Defensive HC's can win football games too and you can hire QB specialists at OC and QBC.

If I was him, I would want out. He has made a defense that isn't incredibly talented good for a long time, at some point he has to feel like he isn't being given his due in Chicago. Maybe he really loves the city though, who knows.

I'm sure the Bears want someone who can help develop Trubisky.

The Bears already interviewed Fangio for the HC spot. For some reason, teams just don't like Defensive head coaches, unless your DC coached under BB.

That's attainable with Fangio hiring the right staff, OC, QB coach etc..! It doesn't have to be a Offensive minded HC just not a Idiot Defensive HC like Rex Ryan ignoring the offensive side of the ball. Fangio absolutely could do that. He's like the Kirk Cousins of the Bears.

I always thought it was because Coaches on the offensive side of the ball tend to get vultured more. Which can really change how your QB develops and plays in a worse way...and the likely situation is usually they have a young QB or need to draft their young QB if they are hiring a new HC.

I think of you are the Colts you should look at a Defensive guy and hire a good old timer like arians was who isn’t likely to get a head gig anymore.

but not really. If they have success with the OC or QB coach then other teams will snag them... There's a certain continuity with an offensive-minded head coach.
