So you're going to take a guy who's small and slow? If that's your modus operandi then by all means go right ahead. Not for me.

yeah duke aint slow and he doesnt get tackled easy. he does have a fumbling problem though.  and he doesnt get injured... but he def has to take plays off and it looks like his body is going to be hurt forever but its somehow not

According to pre-draft measurables Phillip Lindsay was small and slow.

This is an incredibly lazy take.

Grant it. Duke is overrated and never should've been given that contract. He's just not a very good runner out the backfield. Poor patience, poor vision, not a breakaway threat, killer fumbles, and always nursing a nagging injury.

He's an outlet RB in the passing game but not one of the best.

As I said when he was given the contract, if you're counting on a RB like Johnson, you're probably not a very good team.

I can see why he'd ask for that from a personal success/snaps/accolades sort of standpoint.  Writing is on the wall there, he's on the way out sooner or later.  But it's kinda smelly from a teammate perspective...trying to jump ship just as the Browns look like they might actually be an ascending team.

Not sure what the value even is on a specialist receiving back with a kinda bloated contract.  Can't imagine it's that much.  He's not a bell cow, he's gonna tip your hand every time that it's not going up the middle, and he's probably not gonna do anything more than he's shown in Cleveland in those offenses catching a bunch of checkdowns and screens.  If you really want a RB who isn't actually that good at running the football, and is actually just a small slot receiver who lines up in the backfield a lot...i guess he's your man.  There are offenses out there where that kind of player can be pretty useful, but i can't imagine a huge lineup waiting to spend a good pick and a bunch of cap space on that.  Especially with a public trade request out there.

Hearing all over that Houston is very interested. I'm game for this.

Heard the Jets are in on him as well.  Would be a hell of a 1-2 punch with Bell.  Both Bell and Duke are like WR's and would be matchup nightmares for defenses.

Consider me very interested in making that happen.

He's a great pass catching RB both out of the backfield and in the slot, and he's smart and valuable in pass protection as well. He's got definite value in this niche role, but with the Hunt signing and OBJ trade that will undoubtedly move Jarvis Landry into the slot full time, Duke was immediately expendable unfortunately. I hope that the Browns are able to get some type of Chubb insurance policy while Hunt serves his 8 games, even if it's someone like a CJ Anderson type.

He's not slow. The tape will tell you as much.

He's not fast either.

There's this perception that Duke is just a speedy guy just because he's smaller and catches the ball well but it's simply not true. Duke has never, EVER been the downhill guy that fires off with speed. There were times when I would get frustrated because I see how much yardage he's leaving on the field because he's too busy dancing.

I won't take away from his skillset - extremely elusive and I'm always confident he'll make that first guy miss. His hands are pretty amazing too and his route running is great for a RB. But he's not explosive because he's lacking speed. Agility and speed are not the same thing.

I'm quite confident in Dontrell Hilliard (but that's just me).

We could also pick up Spencer Ware or one of the other FA RBs, or draft one late in the draft.

It shouldn't take much to succeed in this offense. With the weapons we have, RBs aren't a major concern. You look at three other explosive offenses (Chiefs/Steelers/Patriots) and you'll see that they are able to insert and swap out RBs like pokemon cards. We all know about the Pats and their RBs, but the Chiefs have had a ton themselves and all have done well. Steelers went from Bell to Conner to Washington without skipping a beat.

Browns will be fine. If we're talking injuries, we'll be in even bigger trouble if other positions (QB, O-Line, D-Line) are hit with injuries.

Would you be willing to do Duke Johnson for Darren Lee straight up?

Probably not.

I'd do like Duke and 6th for Lee or Duke and 5th for Lee and a 6th.

I think Lee has a little more value but not much.
