A Philosophical Examination of the Sport Mind (Buncha Jerks Cost Us Rings)

Recommended Posts

I think it is that they are super similar and just can't get along.

Remember that Jennings got passed over for another WR for a scholarship at U of M and had to go to much smaller Western Michigan.  Then, he fell to the second round even though he was the best WR in his draft.  Then they tried to replace his position with Randy Moss, and drafted James Jones, and Jordy Nelson in consecutive years.  The guy probably also has a bit of a chip on his shoulder.  I can absolutely see how two guys like that would butt heads.

For what it's worth, Rodgers basically confirmed that the Jennings/49ers story was true in the interview today. Didn't explicitly say it, but his reaction certainly was one of "guy can't take a joke" and not "That's a made up story". I have to believe there was some kind of friction there already though. Seems like a petty thing to base years of resentment on if that was the extent of the cause.

Oh there's no question that exchanged happened IMO.

I just can't fathom how someone would get so butthurt over a joke like that (as an isolated incident).

I don’t want to sound like I’m saying anything definitive here, but it’s reasonably likely Jennings himself said stuff in the locker room or to his teammates about the money he was going to make in free agency. Especially with the way he turned down GB’s very generous offer.

It’s true that Rodgers holds grudges and chips on his shoulder, so it’s funny to hear him tell Greg to get over it, but the key difference is that he uses the chips to better motivate himself. He doesn’t use them to take his cohorts down.

Jennings was something of a Favre guy. I wonder how that affected their relationship. Probably not positively.

That said, Jennings knows what he's getting those checks for.

That said again, little bit hypocritical of Rodgers telling anybody to get over anything.

Not saying you’re referring to this but the claim that Rodgers still holds a grudge against MM for choosing Alex Smith over him cracked me up. I’m sure it was a chip on his shoulder initially but I would bet that any shred of that feeling was gone the moment he lifted that Lombardi Trophy into the air.  If not earlier.

My favorite quote:

"We had a hell of a run," Rodgers said. "We had 13 years, four NFC championships, one Super Bowl, eight straight playoffs, 19 straight wins. So, instead of trashing this guy on the way out, let's remember the amazing times that we had together. Packer fans, remember this, especially those of you who live in Green Bay: Mike lives here. Mike has young kids here. So Mike has to be here. Think about how difficult it is for him. My favor that I would ask of you, strongly, is if you see Mike, shake his hand. Tell him thanks for the memories. Tell him thanks for the coaching job that he did. Tell him how much you appreciate him being a part of what we built here"

AR didnt need to say anything like this - no less with as much understanding, depth and recognition towards MM and his family. IMO, this speaks well of AR.

This always stuck out to me  from the super bowl run at 17:52 ish. Look at how Rodgers looks at him. He never liked Jennings.

Just to be clear because I have been pretty muddy with this Lewis stuff, I don't really have that much of an issue with what he was saying was happening.

It wasn't a surprise. But the way I heard it anyways, Lewis was taken back by that. And dude's been around a long time. Felt like he was like wow, can't say I've ever seen anyone try and pull that at this level.

I'm just an idiot with internet access so I don't have a clue if this ever goes on. But my feel from Lewis was that it wasn't something he'd ever experienced, which is why I took note of it, more or less.

What QB with the jags was ever good enough for their coach to allow them to switch plays though?

Makes me miss Nick Collins. Love that guy. Not to mention a defense that can carry us through an NFC Championship game.

I've convinced myself, all I want out of this draft is O-Line and keep throwing guys at the defense.

No, could be Greg Jennings.  Aaron doesn't like Greg Jennings.
