Magic Johnson announces resignation

To all the people celebrating the Lakers demise, the Lakers are the ultimate trolls. They'll land AD and probably win it all next year. This is like when people were laughing at Kobe for asking for a trade because they got bounced twice by the Suns and weren't looking any better the next year....and then they basically got Pau Gasol for (at what at the time seemed like) nothing.

Lakers gonna lake.......soon.

Magic legit took on this job thinking it would be a cake walk and he could equally portion out his time between his other business ventures and running an NBA franchise, let alone the historic Los Angeles Lakers. What a goof lol. If you want to be great at something, you can't just half-arse it and split your time between 10 different things.

Another reason NBA greats don't make good execs...

I don't know how hands on he is with his other ventures but as President of a franchise I'm sure he has to be.

I honestly think he didn't want to tarnish his image for not being able to get something done...especially to the very fan base that adores him.

I think they'll be better off without him, too much pressure to build something that is going to take time.

LA has been a dumpster fire for years. No idea why anyone would want to go there. Lebron doesn't care anymore, the organization is a crap show and the young guys have basically been beaten down and know they're just trade pieces to GM Lebron.

Great job Klutch and Lebron, you deserve every second of this.

A couple of things.

1- Magic said "I am tired of all this tampering" or in other words, if he can't cheat he can't GM.

2- Magic has always been a joke. Does anyone remember Magic's coaching stint with LA? he took over the job sometime mid season and during that same time he quite as Coach. Couldn't even finish the year and it only had a few games left. Pete Vescey (legendary NY POST writer) has an on going feud with Magic and has always stated Magic is one of the biggest frauds. This should add some fuel to the fire.

3 - It was stated Magic met with Rob Pelinka , Lebron and Rich Paul and didn't mention leaving. Was it perhaps that meeting that "pushed" Magic over the edge?

It's not 2008 anymore. They've been a mess for a while now and letting GM Lebron and Rich Paul have their way and the Pelicans FO clown them has just set them back further.

Magic's always come off as a vapid marketing tool rather than as insightful so none of what's been coming out is surprising.

The Lakers could get AD and still not win anything. Lebron is over the hill, it's just the way it is.

He's certainly not the best player in the world anymore and not his most impactful, but he still just out up 28-8-8. If he is the 2nd best player on a team, then that team is sitting pretty.

Ben Golliver brought up a great point on his pod today - it seems unlikely that Magic would step down if he felt good about bagging a star in FA this summer.

Putting the pieces together, it looks pretty obvious that the Lakers won't get a top level star, but another sign.

Man. You just hate to see it.

Agreed. That fan base and franchise really deserves a win.
