Man Patriots always go away from what you think they're gonna do and this year's draft is that to a tee.

They have had a good draft though.

Losing some early picks due to deflategate hurt them. Now with a crap load of picks they are replenishing the roster with much needed young talent.

A huge component to this is Scarnecchia.   He can turn Day 2-3 talent (or other team's failed projects - see LT Brown last year) into decent starters, and that accrued value (along with Brady's contract) just allows them to let OL FA's walk.  They don't have to go for big FA signings there, so the net effect is more comp picks.  And the ability to trade back.

Everyone talks about Brady's contract and BB's genius (which are entirely legit points, BB's the GOAT HC), but I don't think ppl realize how much of an org-changer having Scarnecchia is.  It's a huge reason they don't ever get in rough shape cap wise, and why "Next Man Up" really works for their OL.  We see a very similar impact with Mike Munchak, but it's still far behind Scarnecchia.  I hope we get that in DEN.

I'm surprised by it. Gaines isn't a typical Wade NT. He's more of a traditional NT. Wade must have had enough of the poor run defense.

To be fair, that and lack of imagination/adaptability in the gameplan killed LAR last year.   Can't control injuries, but they can control fixing the trenches.

They needed a tight end in the worst way, but they aren't really going to go into the season with him as the projected starter, right?

Nah, the staff is very high on Darren Waller. But we have Lee Smith as our blocking TE and signed Luke Wilson late in FA.
