With the 193rd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select Olisaemeka Udoh, T - Elon

He looks fast, and light on his feet. At that size it's really impressive. Linval Joseph is the only recent Vikings heavyweight who's that quick and agile.

Udoh isn't some kind of project like Babs. He really looks like he could play in the NFL.

Now, you've made the Jason Peters size comparison, would it be ideal to start developing him on the left side and just leave O'Neill on the right, or should they continue to develop him where he played in college and eventually have O'Neill make the switch if Udoh progresses as we hope he does?

I'd start him on the left side. We need to be anti T.J. Clemmings with this pick. Slot him in and let him learn.

I think they should try him on both sides and see how it goes.

At some point, he'll have to be able to play both tackle spots. Ideally he'd replace Hill as the 3rd swing tackle next year, which would mean backing up both LT and RT.

We know from college that O'Neill can play either side about equally well. I don't hate the idea of having him switch sides, but that wouldn't be happening until 2021 under the most optimistic developmental trajectory for Udoh. By that point, O'Neill would've played 3 years at RT, so it might be better to leave him on the right side and push Udoh to the left.

Udoh's huge but his feet look good enough to play LT. He's not just a plodding giant like Loadholt.

Udoh/O'Neill would be a very similar pairing physically to Peters/Lane Johnson for the Eagles, as long as O'Neill can continue to get stronger.

An honor roll student and NCHSAA student-athlete honoree, Udoh chose Elon among a handful of offers because of the combination of athletics and academics. He studied exercise science with a minor in biology and was named to the CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team in 2015 and 2016.

Udoh and his three siblings are the children of Nigerian immigrants, Benjamin and Rita Udoh. Benjamin is a doctor who runs the Hanora Medical Center, a name derived to honor Olisaemeka’s grandparents (Harold and Nora). Olisaemeka’s mother is a registered nurse, and his sister plays college basketball for Wake Forest.

Udoh is one of five players on the Vikings roster — and two selected in 2019 (receiver Olabisi Johnson) — who are of Nigerian descent. Brothers Ifeadi and Tito Odenigbo, and 2018 draft pick Ade Aruna are the other three.
