Who had the best draft?

Recommended Posts

A lot of people in here dismissing the NFL learning curve for Murray.  It’s going to be maybe the steepest ever for a Qb.

Had the Cards made every pick the same except for taking Bosa/Q #1 and keeping Rosen it might be an all timer for AZ (on paper).

What learning curve are you worried about? How does it differ from any other rookie #1 QB?

There’s a few...  Most rookie QB’s aren’t entering the league to a coach with zero NFL coaching experience.  Most rookie QB’s don’t go from having the #1 ranked OL in CFB to the #32 ranked OL in the NFL.     Current successful QB’s with only one year of starting experience in CFB have prototypical size by NFL standards (Cam, Trubisky).  Every sub 6ft QB that is currently having success had at least 3 years of starting experience in CFB (Brees, Mayfield, Wilson).  If Kyler Murray becomes a successful NFL QB he will be the first of his prototype; size, lack of experience, talent disparity at each level.  Hell by next year his damn near entire offense at Oklahoma will have been drafted.  The deck is certainly stacked against him more than every other #1 QB since maybe JaMarcus Russell, IMO.

There has also never been a #1 overall pick with the initials KM and also could’ve played baseball. The odds are against him, for sure.

And we still don’t know if we got a no-baseball clause in his contract. :/

I wouldn’t say JaMarcus had the deck stacked against him, he had no desire to learn the game, never watched tape, and his plan was to steal his 68M guaranteed. Same thing Albert Haynesworth did on the Redskins.

David Carr would be a more accurate comparison. That was a terrible situation and the Texans absolutely ruined his career from the very first day.

Patriots had their best draft in years and I've been seeing a lot of people ranking them very high

Maybe Murray will be a star. But I still think that is one of the dumbest moves by a team ever. They basically just pissed away last year's #1 pick (plus whatever they paid to move to get it) for a late 2d rounder, and all so they could draft a short, not exactly Mensa material QB who's had one whole year of success on a team loaded with talent.

If Murray struggles and they have a real high pick next year.....trade Murray and draft another QB?  :S
