Klomp
I had totally forgotten about this injury, but it makes sense why they'd bring in some extra competition

Jared Allen was drafted in the 4th round to primarily be a long snapper. Edited July 19, 2019 by swede700

That’s always been a joke that Allen has told. But the defensive end with nearly 40 sacks and over 70 TFLs was not drafted to be a long snapper. He finished the game and played the rest of the year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_McDermott_(American_football)
vike daddy
The Air Force will use Austin Cutting for recruiting as he plays in the NFL while serving a two-year military commitment, his agent, Darren Deloatche, told Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. The seventh-round draft choice has agreed to terms and will start training camp with the Vikings on Tuesday. Cutting is a second lieutenant in the Air Force. The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs is Cutting’s assigned station, but the Air Force will assign him to Minnesota “at the present time,” Deloatche told Tomasson. Cutting’s assigned station would change if he earns a roster spot on another team. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/07/21/austin-cutting-will-recruit-for-air-force-while-playing-in-nfl/

You may believe it's a joke, but it has been confirmed by the Chiefs people that were here at the time and has been corroborated by many. They certainly were going to give him a shot at DE as a backup, but they truly expected him to be their long snapper (they had been looking for a LS who could also be a backup at a position). It was only after the impact he made in training camp at the DE position that they pulled him from the LS position. They actually never expected him to become a starting DE. I was never once told a “war story” as part of my recruiting. A recruiter’s job is to sell what their specific branch has to offer, what benefits you can receive, the type of training you can go through, and in some cases how a certain job within the branch can set you up for success in the civilian world when your service is up.

He's been to the Academy. There's a lot of military training that goes on there. So I think he's able to speak to that. Might also be able to persuade perspective officer candidates that might believe they have a chance at the NFL someday that they won't lose that opportunity in the armed forces. Could even improve the academy's sports programs.
