2020 NFL Draft Discussion

Going to put my shameless Trojan homer plug out there: USC-Iowa in the Holiday Bowl tonight.

Iowa's EDGE AJ Epenesa will line up across OT Austin Jackson in a showdown of potential first round picks. But mainly, in this season of disappointment (specifically at keeping Coach Helton), I'm pulling for our senior captain WR Michael Pittman Jr. Would love to see us grab him as a day 2 guy - albeit may not be a great fit for us. Reminds me a fair amount of Juju coming out - knocks for top end speed and suddenness, but all the right intangibles, tough AF player, strong hands, high point specialist, good blocker, etc etc.

TBH the whole game should be an interesting contrast. We have one of the best WR crews in the country (including ESB's baby brother, Amon-Ra, #8) and a pretty legit Freshman QB (Slovis) running an air-raid-esque offense under first-year OC (and former Packer) Graham Harrell. But they come up against one of the best defenses in Iowa - which is assuredly the best we've seen all season.

Just because WR is deep doesn't mean you should wait. We need guys who can be legit #1-2s, not a bunch more MVS and ESB type guys.

Agreed, all the wrs have different skill sets and upsides. There have been many “deep” classes that turn out bad.

With that said, I wouldn’t mind double dipping r 2/3 and going tackle or Dl r1

All about value. We need legit #1 DL and OT too. Those guys run out much faster. Especially DL

I'm fine keeping Bulaga. I would love a DL but value is relative. I'm not saying we must take a first WR just that waiting until the mid/late rounds isn't really helpful.

I agree with you. I think we do the same thing we did with Savage last year. Pick your pick of the litter. Don't leave it to the last 1 or 2 WRs left in the bottom of the 2nd even if they are on the same "Tier".

But you're comparing against other positions and the depth of those positions.  Just a brief look at the DL, and I think there's a clear tier drop between that late 1st, early 2nd round (Neville Gallimore and Marvin Wilson) and then that next tier.  How far is the tier drop among WRs?  I'm seeing a TON of value in WRs in that beginning of the second day, and I think there's 6-7 guys that you could legitimately argue there.  Your top tier consists of Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb, but then that next tier is pretty much wide open.

If you want an offensive tackle early in the draft, the game on right now: USC. vs. Iowa is a good one to watch. Three guys who are bound to go early in the draft playing tonight. Likely Alaric Jackson from Iowa is the only of the three we may even get a shot at, come pick #32.

I think we can safely say Austin Jackson from USC should not be a first rounder and should not come out early :(

He looked stiff and not very good to be sure. Not sure if it was just me, but also looked like he had extremely long, arms. Which is a good thing for an offensive lineman.

Football Perspective -   If you are the Bengals, would you trade the 1st pick for the 5th, 19th, and 25th picks (i.e., Miami's 3 first round picks)?

IN A SECOND! Joe Burrow is going to be the real deal, but Tua is going to be there at 5. Then you have two more picks to add players.

It depends on what you think of Joe Burrow. I’m a believer so I say absolutely not for 2 reasons;

-QB is a potential 15-20 year investment if you hit. You take your guy if he’s there and don’t nickel and dime. Also  not sure Tua makes it that long.

-19 and 25 historically you aren’t getting blue chippers, more just solid to good which isn’t worth a qb downgrade. Using 15-17 for example

2017- oj Howard and Jabril Peppers

2016- Shaw Lawson and A Burns

2015- Cam Erving and Shaq Thompson
