I would be surprised if Braunecker doesnt make team, but it wouldnt really bother me.  Also be surprised if Nall makes it.

Anything creative they can do to keep Bray? They obviously want him around and have invested a lot of time in him.

I'd would be surprised if Braunecker was cut as well especially after extending him for 2 years.

I won't even think about calling the keepers at RB and WR 'til camp and preseason.  We need to see them play.

Bray's a PS guy for now but might be able to take Daniel's spot in 2020.  Can't keep paying him what we do as a #2.

Pretty much my view.

Daniel is an average back up at absolute best - and I don't believe he is TBH- so why should he be paid as a guy who is a spot starter-level player? Guy was drafted 10 years ago and over HALF of his production came from 2 games last year. I'd rather overpay an actual talented player than overpay him.

Reason I asked is Bray is out of PS eligibility, but Bears obviously still want to keep him and look like they are planning to in some way.

Just curious if anyone can think what way that might be.  Lots of little tricks I dont know, like what they did with Macks contract to create cap space.

IR him and let him essentially coach guys up.

Sign an athletic PR QB who can push the defense a little more.

Move McManis to S and get rid of ILB then add another CB I think.  Maybe Denmark.

I though Bray still had PS eligibility.

Worst case scenario is we cut him and he becomes a Street FA.  Someone may sign him but that's probably 50/50 at best.

He's pretty much a strong arm pocket passer with very limited mobility so not what most teams are looking for.  If we did lose him I wouldn't be all that upset.  I would not favor using up a roster spot on him.

This is why I would favor a change in the rules whereby specialists; Punter, PK, and LS, are not counted in any team 53 man roster.

These players have no other job to do and it may end some of the gaming the rules team do when placing a promising rookie on IR so they don't have to risk losing him on waivers.  Teams could then keep a 3rd QB on the roster as well.

NEW 6-25-2019 LIST

OFFENSE:

QB:  MT, Daniel

RB: Montgomery, Davis, Cohen, Whyte

WR: Robinson, Gabriel, Miller, Wims, Ridley, Patterson

TE: Burton, Shaheen, Braunecker, Sowell, Dax (seems weird to have 5 TEs, but I think Nagy has some kind of plan for Sowell otherwise tough to ask him to switch when he could probably make team as a swing OT.).

LT:   Charles Leno

LG:   Cody Whitehair, Alex Bars  (if healthy and performing otherwise practice squad and Clemmings gets this spot).

C:     James Daniels

RG:   Kyle Long, Ted Larsen

RT:   Bobby Massie, Rashaad Coward

25

DEFENSE:

Defensive Line (5)- Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman, Bilal Nichols, Jonathan Bullard, Roy Robertson-Harris (Nick Williams may make it as he can play Nose, if so Denmark goes to Practice Squad).

ILB:  Inside Linebackers (4)- Roquan Smith, Danny Trevathan, Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Kevin Pierre-Louis/Kwiatkowski (fight for one spot)

OLB: Outside Linebackers (5)- Khalil Mack, Leonard Floyd, Aaron Lynch, Isaiah Irving, Kylie Fitts

Safety (4)- Eddie Jackson, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Deon Bush, Sherrick McMannis

Cornerbacks (7)- Kyle Fuller, Prince Amukamara, Buster Skrine, Kevin Toliver, Sherrick McManis, Duke Shelley, Stephen Denmark (if Denmark struggles look for him to go to PS and a veteran to make 53).

25

Special Teams :

(3)- LS Patrick Scales, P Pat O’Donnell, K Eddy Pineiro

53

IR:  Emmanuel Hall (I don't think they risk losing this guy on PS, he is too talented - he either makes 53 or gets put on IR).

Chance they make room for Bray on offense to keep him.  Dax or Bars can be moved to PS.

Denmark has a battle to make the team.

DHC and McManis are core special teams players.

If Denmark is a capable ST player as well then he gets a leg up IMO over DHC because DHC is just a ST player and Denmark has enormous upside and 4 years at a 7th round pick salary. DHC is good at ST but he’s not pushing for the pro bowl for his work there. I think it’s more likely that both make the squad with either Braunecker or Dax not making the 53. If Dax is capable then Braunecker is entirely expendable, as Dax would almost surely fill the role as Burton’s backup. Braunecker has established himself as just a guy, and his $550k in 2019 dead cap space with no 2020 carryover in this situation would a complete non-factor. Braunecker’s cap charge if he’s on the roster is $1,043,750. Were he to be cut and replaced by Dax (2019 cap hit $500k) then their combined cap hit (Braunecker dead + Dax live) would be $1,050,000. I don’t think Pace would be sweating the $6,250 difference.

Interestingly enough though it's Ian Bunting who Helfrich singled out from OTAs and not Dax Raymond.

Honestly I don’t care about the names at the bottom of the roster - I’m just excited that most of those spots have legitimate competition for them. Nobody is getting gifted a spot at the bottom of our roster, and honestly it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if several of our final cuts were picked up elsewhere because they’re better than players 50-53 elsewhere.
