Early roster predictions?

Aways enjoy putting these together after any big event like free agency, the draft, or training camp.

Feel free to just list your roster locks or a full on depth chart. I'm doing a sort of depth chart view of the 53-man roster I expect a majority of the season.

Enjoy!

Mine right now (starters in bold, rookies in italics):

Brady, Michel, White, 5, Edelman, Harry, LaCosse

Quarterback (3): Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer, Jarrett Stidham

With Etling being moved, these are the three, with the former and the latter as roster locks. Stidham could push Hoyer out, but at this early stage I'm not betting on it.

Running Back (6): Sony Michel, James White, James Develin, Rex Burkhead, Damien Harris, Brandon Bolden

Michel and White should start as a duo that could make a lot of noise, while Develin and Harris are also roster locks. Burkhead and Bolden then become the backups with special teams potential - I think Burkhead sees Harris take a lot of his carries away as the guy who got the ball when Sony needed a rest. That leaves off Brossette and Johnson, so no surprises really.

Wide Receiver (6): Julian Edelman, N'Keal HarryPhillip Dorsett, Maurice Harris, Jakobi Meyers, Matthew Slater

Edelman is obviously a lock, and I think Harry and Dorsett probably split starting reps early on with Harry eventually getting the reps in 11 or 21 personnel as the season continues. Harris has reportedly looked good, although I'm not expecting him to do a ton right off the bat. Meyers has also reportedly done well, and I think he's an intriguing athlete with punt return potential. The two notable cuts here are Dontrelle Inman and Braxton Berrios. Berrios is a candidate to take over the Edelman role eventually, but he's a year or two early. Inman, meanwhile, has looked terrible in camp from what I've heard. Etling is a sleeper to fill the Taysom Hill role but I don't think it's realistic at this point.

Tight End (2): Matt LaCosse, Stephen Anderson

My theory is that, at least with Watson suspended, the Patriots will use their tight ends more as strictly receivers. LaCosse might split reps with Develin and Dorsett, depending on the personnel package, with the Patriots pulling the tight end off in some power packages. LaCosse has reportedly looked impressive and Anderson has some potential. Izzo is another option here, but I think Anderson might have a touch of an edge.

Offensive Line (9): Isaiah Wynn, Joe Thuney, David Andrews, Shaq Mason, Marcus Cannon, Hjalte Froholdt, Ted Karras, James Ferentz

The starting offensive line looks great on paper, and I think Thuney could hold his own at left tackle if they choose to swing Wynn inside. Andrews and Mason are close to elite, and Cannon is a good starter. Froholdt gets a lock as a draftee, and Ferentz and Karras have reported had decent reps. Dan Skipper and Tyree St. Louis have had some tackle reps recently, but I've really only heard bad things. I think Cajuste starts the season on the PUP or IR.

Defensive End (4): Michael Bennett, Deatrich Wise Jr., Chase Winovich, John Simon

The first three are locks, and Simon is the guy I think sneaks in. He was pretty impressive last season and reportedly is keeping that going in training camp. That leaves Derek Rivers out, but I think he's first in line if Hoyer gets the axe. I just think it might be time to move on from Rivers.

Defensive Tackle (2): Lawrence Guy, Mike Pennel, Adam Butler, Danny Shelton

Guy is a stud, and reputedly Pennel is too, so that's good. Shelton wasn't so impressive last season, but he should make the team and get some reps. Butler is a high-upside third-down defensive tackle who's actually a good athlete for the position.

Linebacker (5): Ja'Whaun Bentley, Dont'a Hightower, Kyle Van Noy, Jamie Collins Sr., Elandon Roberts

Bentley might be the guy I'm most excited to see this season. He was calling plays in his third game, for crying out loud. Hightower also apparently lost some weight and could be a little quicker this season. Van Noy, Roberts, and Collins all can fill the third LB role, mostly as the rangy guy in the 4-3 and 3-4 packages. Christian Sam and Brandon King are special teamers who could also make a push.

Cornerback (6): Stephon Gilmore, J.C. Jackson, Jason McCourty, Joejuan Williams, Jonathan Jones, Duke Dawson

I'm really excited to see what the secondary can do this season. Gilmore was a first team All-Pro, the Patriots "apparently think J.C. could be even better" than Gilmore, and McCourty is no stiff (see the Super Bowl). Joejuan "could be our Richard Sherman" according to SBNation, and he and Duke as former second round picks definitely get on. Jones is a great slot corner himself who apparently could push for the starting lineup.

Safety (5): Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Duron Harmon, Nate Ebner, Terrence Brooks

No surprises here, same old same old.

Kicker: Stephen Gostkowski

Punter: Ryan Allen

Bailey is a flashy guy (if there can be a flashy punter), but he's the Josh Allen of punting - all leg, lacking touch. I think Bill plays it safe.

Long Snapper: Joe Cardona

Injured / Suspended: Josh Gordon, Benjamin Watson, Yodny Cajuste, Byron Cowart

IF Matthew Slater decides to retire for some reason, then the last roster spot will probably go to Obi Melifonwu. Keion Crossen will probably be waived and hopefully added to the scout team squad but it's likely he will get an offer elsewhere. Rex Burkhead, Brian Hoyer, and Philip Dorsett are the most difficult and surprising cuts on the final roster. Nate Ebner, Demaryius Thomas, Cameron Meredith and Yodney Cajuste all start out on PUP while Josh Gordon and Ben Watson remain suspended to open the season.

Dawson is probably still gonna make it because of the dead cap. Otherwise I agree with everything. We really have to find a way to get Gordon back and trade for Trent Williams though. Our OT depth is bad.

WR (6) J.Edelman, N.Harry, P.Dorsett, M.Harris, J.Meyers, M.Slater -------  Maybe a surprise cut/trade and they keep Berrios for slot and punting duties.
TE (3) M.LaCosse, B.Watson, L.Kendricks   ----    Ryan Izzo  Impressive blocker for our running game. He was killing it last night.
C  (1) D.Andrews
G  (4) S.Mason, J.Thuney, T.Karras, H.Froholdt
T  (3) M.Cannon, I.Wynn, Y.Cajuste           ----   IMO, IR for him this year.
DE (4) M.Bennett, D.Wise, C.Winovich, L.Guy
DT (3) M.Pennel, A.Butler, D.Shelton  -----   Byron Cowart,  IMO a player to watch. He was impressive last night  however it was the 4th Q. Like to see more.
ILB(2) J.Bentley, E.Roberts
OLB(4) D.Hightower, K.VanNoy, J.Collins, B.King
CB (7) S.Gilmore, J.McCourty, J.Jackson, J.Williams, J.Jones, D.Dawson, K.Crossen   KC--I hope someone beats him out. Dawson put a fork in him
SS (2) P.Chung, N.Ebner  -----  You can't be so sure. Has his time run out. Business and age, possible cut.
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
ST (3) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona     Bailey is a real threat. Allen maybe trade chip?
