dll2000
I don't like the sideshow. Media is loving it. I see it as a distraction. Have your specialist kicking coach take guys out to soldier field by themselves for a week straight and just have him pick one. Clearly Pace and Nagy can't pick kickers. Know your weaknesses. soulman
For the curious don't just watch this video. Put on some headphones and listen to the sound of the ball coming off his foot. And look at his height. Another thing I favor is that his ball hooks back to the left the way most right footed kickers do whereas Parkey's kicks always tailed right which IMHO is why he hit the right upright more often than the left. No doubt this kid Pineiro can kick. Pineiro arrived on the scene as a bit of an unknown commodity. But his former college coach Brandon Kornblue gave a glowing recommendation for his former protege, via JJ Stankevitz of NBC Sports Chicago. On Eddy Piniero: His college kicking coach @KornblueKicking texted me “He. Is. The. Man.” Strong leg, “has the mental edge.” Thinks Piniero is “perfect” for the Bears’ situation. — JJ Stankevitz (@JJStankevitz) May 6, 2019 Edited May 7, 2019 by soulman
BEAR FACE DOWN ARROW
I'll bet a fancy beer Piniero is the kicker come fall And keep in mind I KNOW there is certainly a lot that goes into being a kicking coach, but based on that video it sure seems like all you have to do is say "kick it where it's supposed to go. Good. Nice kick"

When Kohl's tell him to hit the clock to the right of the uprights he nails it. Kohl's was just added to the coaching staff and immediately Pace makes a trade for Piniero. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that wasn't just a coincidence. This kid looks pretty good.

He just generates so much power with his kicks that my natural reaction is to be nervous about accuracy and/or his plant foot.

The ball explodes off his foot. No doubt this dude can kick it far. This could be one helluva pickup

I'd venture you nailed it and Pace was able to hedge against the possibility that hes not the same after injury by making it conditional to him being active 5 games. Tbh after listening to that video, I'm giddy. Wonder what PMF has to say about the kid. #forthebrand

Tbh after listening to that video, I'm giddy. Wonder what PMF has to say about the kid. #forthebrand If he's anywhere near as good now as he was in college we've scored big time. Just some excerpts from stuff I found. No one else we've had in or signed has a college track record even close to Piniero's. He's virtually in a class by himself. But he still needs to pass his physical. There are plenty of kickers circulating in the NCAAs that are plenty accurate, but once the field goals start creeping out around 47 or 48 yards, they just don’t have the leg to handle it.That type of kicker doesn’t translate at the NFL level, but that’s not a concern with Pineiro. He has managed to never miss a kick from 50 yards or beyond. He’s 5 for 5 in his career from that distance with a long of 54 yards. In his final year at Florida he hit 17 of 18 FGs, his only miss coming from 47 yards away. More so, if you go back to 2016, Pineiro hit 11 consecutive field goals to end the year. Hitting 28 of his last 29 FGs is great, but it’s not like he was poor prior to that. Pineiro owned an 88.3% FG success rate at Florida for his career. He doesn’t have a problem consistently getting kicks through the uprights. Pineiro attempted 116 kickoffs during his two-year career at Florida and 87 of them were touchbacks. That is a 75% touchback rate. Obviously this is a very small sample size, but Pineiro was with the Raiders last preseason and he was perfect on all his kicks. He was 3 for 3 on field goals and 1 for 1 on extra points. Pineiro did all that in week one, including hitting a 45 and 48 yarder, but mid-week prior to week 2, Pineiro hurt his groin and wasn’t able to kick the remainder of the preseason. Along with the leg, Pineiro brings elite accuracy to the table. Although he only started kicking as a high school senior, Pineiro would have ended as the 4th-most accurate kicker in NCAA football history. The minimum qualifier, per Sports Reference, is 50 career kicks. Pineiro ended his two-year stint with the Gators at an 88.4 percent clip on field goal attempts — with 43 career attempts. Madmike90
I don't think there is an doubt this guy will be the guy...I have no doubt about the physical talent...just need to hope he can handle the mental pressure he will be under.
Sugashane
I even love the little hops after his FGs, with his toes still pointed. Like a basketball player that holds his hand up after the shot to accentuate the follow through. Now people are seeing it wasn't just Gator bias that had me hoping we would draft him. Partly yes, but not entirely. Lol

A distraction from what exactly? They’re doing this in May, not September. Just picking a guy has worked out terribly for Pace since releasing Gould so they are taking an entirely different approach this time with a kicking specialist coach added to the staff and a true competition over an extended period of time. That is knowing their weaknesses IMO, and personally I’d rather they be as thorough as they can be in vetting their options and not just pick a guy who had one good week if they’re going with a young kicker vs. a vet. You see it as a sideshow but I don’t see that at all. Fixing kicker is the story of our offseason. The media is going to be all over our kicking situation until the replacement for Parkey makes a big kick in a meaningful game (or games) whether they decide who our kicker is this week or in August.
