Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul suffered a potential season-ending fractured neck in a single-car accident last week in South Florida, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

Pierre-Paul will be visiting with neck specialists at some point this week to get their opinions, with the hope that a portion of this season can be saved.

The car accident was a single-car accident in Broward County. Pierre-Paul was not cited for the accident.

"We have been informed that Jason was involved in a one-car accident early this morning in South Florida in which he was not cited," Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said in a statement that the team released last week. "We know that he was evaluated at a local hospital and has since been released. Our immediate concern is for the safety and well-being of Jason and his passenger. We have been in contact with Jason and will be getting him further evaluated by our medical staff in the near future."

The defensive end hasn't attended any of the voluntary workouts that the Buccaneers have held this offseason under new coach Bruce Arians.

As much as I hate this because he was the first Bucs players with double digit sacks since 05, the sadness is real even just typing that.

I think we have to hope he retires or his cap hit is only 7.5 if he's cut which saves us about 7.4, we could badly use right now as we can't even sign a majority of our rookies.

Has there ever been a player with more freak injuries off the field than this guy?

No kidding, first the fireworks incident and now this.

What next? Fractured foot playing golf?

Single car accident huh? I'd like to hear more information lead up to this, given his history of off the field decisions leading to injuries.

He wasn't cited, but still... you have to think he was doing something stupid. Generally you don't just crash your car. If we were to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe a deer ran out in front of him and he thought it was a QB?

All before the 4th of July!

Joking aside... I hope he and his passenger are alright.

I would imagine if he was involved in a single car accident that seriously hurt a passenger, we'd have heard about it already. I think.
