Who's your 2019 Breakout Player

Training with Moss is a nice sign for where MVS's head is at, nothing more.  You like to see this from your young guys because it means they're self-directed and putting in effort to improve.  He may also pick up a few small tricks that can be useful, but at the end of the day Moss isn't going to produce better training or be the catalyst for some massive improvement unless the Packers' WR coach is absolute trash.  What he can pick up is what Moss found useful in his own experience, and then translate that to a better understanding of what to focus his own training on.

Wasn't that the universal opinion held about Raih though?

I think that was Rodgers' opinion about Raih.

There were also comments from the young WRs who said they just went to Davante instead of Raih when they had questions
That was part of the article from The Athletic

And McGinn wrote about Raih as well:

"Sources with inside knowledge of the Green Bay Packers have described David Raih, the team’s first-year coach of the wide receivers, as the weak link of the staff and a contributing factor why the pass offense really hasn’t meshed all season. “They’ve got three young guys and they’re getting taught by a guy that doesn’t understand the offense,” said one source. “Guys have been bitching about it since August "

New WR coach Alvis Whitted is well- regarded and a former NFL WR,  hoping he's an upgrade

Just gonna play the devils advocate and mention that Moss also trained with Terelle Pryor. Obviously MVS is a much better receiver and has a higher ceiling but just because Moss is involved doesnt mean MVS is suddenly gonna turn into some top flight WR.

That being said, MVS is my breakout player for 2019.

Yea I think people overrate training ability of “big name” players (whether current or former) and underrate the training ability of actual coaches and trainers. I’m sure MVS isn’t the only player getting training from someone this offseason, but it’s one of the only ones we hear about because of the click-value of the Moss name.

That being said, even good trainers will have trouble improving an athlete without the athlete “buying in” to what he’s saying and applying himself. And for certain types of people, the “big name” might encourage more buy-in.

Doesn't understand the offense as it's intended to be run and is coached, or doesn't understand the offense as Rodgers wants it run? Going to Davante isn't answering that question.

Anything that gets reported, you have to ask who benefits from leaking it. In this case it's clearly Rodgers' camp.

"It's not that Rodgers can't get along with young receivers, it's that the receivers are badly coached." Is the message that's getting pushed.

Seems like I may be picking on your post for being optimistic about Moss.  I"m really not.  MVS will get route running training from actual coaches.  If Randy can just help him set up speed routes and keep him in shape, all is good.

You are very much mistaken if you think Moss' game was strictly about his ability to run vertical routes.

It's not exactly a secret that Mac didn't place much value on the WR coaching position.  Had some odd choices manning the position for years.

It was definitely more about teaching the offensive concepts than the specifics of the position, that's for sure.

True.  It was also about that incredibly subtle basketball push off move as he went up for a catch.  Best ever push off in NFL history.

Of course, and that's why we always consider the source
Same as reading posts around here - people have agendas and push messages all the time.
A famous but nameless poster here once said: "Take it for what it's worth to you"

That pretty much sums it up

Who else leaks it?

MAYBE Gutekunst/Murphy for one more reason to justify the firing of McCarthy, but the list of people who benefit from that report are extremely short.

Literally anyone could've leaked it, Bob's friends are usually old school guys that have been around for awhile. If you're talking with an old buddy you know won't leak your name, you don't really worry about the "benefits" of your information. He very well could have older guys in the FO he just routinely shoots the .... with. The offensive staff last year sucked, our QB coach was a flat out joke, seems like Raih was too. Campen and Sirmans were the only worthwhile people on that staff.

We don't know for certain that it was pro-actively leaked to serve a specific purpose. That's just one of several possibilities. There's a ton of employees/scouts/trainers at 1265 and a bunch more that are yoga teachers, bartenders and barbers. And they all have 5 friends they told about various things they "heard" over a couple of beers.  We also know that Equinimeous St. Brown,  who was embroiled in the issue, has a father who loves to talk to reporters.
Hell, we even have people who post here, claiming to "know" things - none of those are tactical leaks from Rodgers' camp

We also don't know how the anti-Raih stuff got to (2) different reporters and we don't really know if Raih is any good or not.  Only 1 guy from the MM offensive staff was retained, RB coach Ben Sirmans

As far as AZ, Its not like Cliff Kingsbury had the pick of the litter in assembling his staff - he's a new and unproven HC and that makes it much harder to woo the top assistants. The likely reason Raih was hired is that Raih and Kingsbury have a history:

"He reunites with Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, under whom he worked as director of high school relations/outside receivers coach at Texas Tech in 2013"

The really strange wrinkle is that former Packer coach Tom Clements, a close friend of AR, is the new passing game coordinator in AZ.
