Sheldon Richardson traded to Seahawks

I'm sad that Sheldon didn't work out in NY, but kudos to Macc for executing this trade. Obviously the 2nd rounder is the big piece. Kearse is the type of player this young receiving corps needs, kind of Cotchery-esqe, and should be a viable #2/3 receiver for a few years.

Keep an eye out for Kony Ealy here. If he can stick around and make a name for himself, I have a feeling he plays a very similar role that Sheldon played, but may be a better fit.

If he works out, that makes it easier to move Wilk if he doesn't step up this year.

Are we assuming Ealy will play the OLB role?

Also gutted Sheldon has gone, thought after his rookie year he would become a all time Jet great. What shame. Either way though great trade to get back a 2nd plus Kearse.

Think for now he's just gonna be a pass rushing specialist until he heats caught up with the scheme

According to a NE beat reporter, the big issue with Ealy was he wasn't grasping the OLB role in the preseason. Lost contain on a few plays and so on. Maybe with some work he could develop into something more, but he seems like a situational pass rusher at the moment.

I was looking through the draft to see who the Jets could have gotten had they been able to trade him to Seattle for they're second. Jordan Willis or Chris Godwin would have been nice. Also, it still burns that Mac traded out of the Eifflen pick in the third. He's been named the starter in MN

As you all know that has been one of the beefs I have with Mac. I just don't trust Mac to make the right decision on a trade or draft pick.

I will never understand that

I understand it, Macc is a incompetent buffoon. He has had three full off seasons to build a playoff team. So far we are worst now than when he took over three years ago. How could anybody argue that. Look how he screwed up the draft this year, giving away a third round pick, and passing on Devin Cook to get a so so safety, he did nothing in the FA market, except get a broken down O lineman. All I hear is that Macc has a plan, but nobody can tell me what his plan is. It looks like his plan is to go thru the waiver wire and get cheap players, and build a team with mid to late round draft picks. No Jet team has even gone into a season with a worst roster to start a season.

Guys let's move on already. Woulda coulda shoulda. At least we got a very nice return for Richardson, eventually. Pat Elflein was not going to be the difference this season. Yeah we have one extra hole to plug next year but we have the draft picks and cap space to get a new center. Heck, maybe if we get lucky we will get him before then.

As for Ealy, let's hope he provides a solid pass rush this year. Williams can move inside on passing downs and Ealy can play a solid role...even if he never sees a snap at OLB.

Let's not forget, we MIGHT have a new head coach, new DC next season and we could always switch to a 4-3 if it fits our personnel better. If Ealy balls out, he could start for us next season at RE, with Williams moving to RDT.

I like the newcomers we have added since the start of camp: Ealy, Kearse, Tye. They not only are young veterans, but they have all played in big games too. Solid additions.

We are worse by design what is so hard to understand about that.  You think if Mac wanted to make the team better he couldn't?  It's not about couldn't it's because he shouldn't.  We didn't do anything in FA because we are rebuilding.  Not a lets trim the fat rebuild but a clean house down to the studs rebuild.  You'd be crazy to think this approach wasn't the right thing to do.  Enough of the 2015 approach where we trade for past their prime vets and hope for the best with a stop gap QB.  That is a horrible strategy for success and blows my mind that some people are upset on here with the approach.

If you need someone to explain the plan to you then you haven't been paying attention.  The plan is get a franchise QB, that's the only thing you should be concerning yourself with.  We are going to complain about a third round pick and a Dalvin Cook (huge off the field concerns by the way).  That's a great plan to clean house by bringing in another guy with character concerns when we just traded that guy away.

We are doing the right thing by being bad and getting rid of everyone who won't be here in 2019 and beyond.  This year is about getting a franchise QB.

We have been rebuilding for over 50 years, and that is a fact.  Rebuilding is word used by losers.  Macc has made one bad decision after another. The Giants went from one of if not the worst defensive in the NFL to one on the best in a Year & a Half, by drafting right & and making great FA pickups. You have no idea what kind of heat this clown is going to get from the N.Y. press & media.  Macc is just another horrible GM in a long list of bad Jets GM'S. This 53 man roster he starting the season with is a absolute joke.

Let's not be so facetious with the rebuilding for the past 50 years line, that makes no sense.  Were we rebuilding in 2009 and 2010 too?  We we rebuilding in 2015?  No we were loading up on overpaid talent trying to make a run that continually fell short and led to years like 2012 through 2014.  Can you guess why they fell short?  Because we had QB's named Fitz and Sanchez.  Rebuilding is a word used by smart teams not good enough to make the playoffs.  I know you were one of the people on here wanting to keep Decker and sign a few mediocre players to win 6 games which is why we've been rebuilding for the past 50 years as you say.  It's pressure from win now fans and media that have delayed this approach far too long dragging out disappointing season after another.  You must want to run out and win 8 games every year just so your ego won't feel bruised.  Well I don't, I want a franchise QB so when the offseason rolls around I'm not worried about QB competitions and what career backup we will be bringing in to play the role of Fitz in 2015 trying to catch lightning in a bottle.

Please spare me the list of past drafts.  Past failures have nothing to do with the present.  If you failed with Sanchez does that mean you give up trying to get your franchise QB, not you try again until you find one because we failed every other way too with mediocre QB's and restructuring contracts too.  See Tanny's years here and MIA in the future.

We know the roster is a joke but it has to be in order to have a shot at one of these QB's.  If we win 1 game and land a franchise QB it is worth it but the best chance to grab one is by having a top pick.  Get the QB first worry about everything else later.  I've been a fan through all the horrible drafts I get it but when ownership makes the smart decision to stop this revolving door of mediocrity I'm happy about it.

Criticize Mac as you see fit, he's not been perfect but this is the smart approach.

Look at Mac's drafts a Jet"s GM no one top player except for William who fell in our lap, and he has not set the world on fire.

He doesn't exactly have a long track record here.

WIlliams looks like a stud in the making but yes the rest of that draft Smith/Mauldin were not good.  Simon should be a solid player though.

His next draft was much better with Lee, Jenkins, Burris, Shell all looking like capable NFL players and Anderson was a fantastic find.  No studs but a lot of solid players

This draft is too early to tell but how can you not be high on Adams and Maye.  Stewart looks like a talented slot guy and Hansen, Leggett, McGuire all look good enough to contribute.  If one of the CB's stick then it will be another solid draft.

You can nit pick about not finding that mid round star but overall outside of his first draft his last two look ok.  He's done good things and bad things but so many GM's start off slow and you can't just keep turning them over every 2-3 years it just doesn't work like that.  There's no great GM sitting there waiting on the Jets job so we just have to hope this plan plays out and Mac gets us a franchise guy because if we fire him we will just have another GM taking 2-3 years to dump Macs guys and get his own in.  It's just a revolving door then and nothing changes.
