berlin calling
you need to surround your MVP QB with as many weapons as possible. i like the Ravens for being a defensive minded team but this is clearly Lamars team now and you need to maximise his potential by adding weapons and protection. you need to beat the Chiefs and you won't be able to do that by limiting Mahomes, you need to have him on the bench watching your offense putting points on the board.

The way I see it, given we're a team that rarely has a high draft pick, the opportunity with a deep draft is to get a caliber of talent that is usually closed off from us. There might be a Justin Jefferson type available at 28 who would might have gone Top 15 in many other draft classes, or someone from the Aiyuk/Hamler/Mims/Higgins next tier that will be there in the 2nd round for us who would normally be 1st round locks in weaker drafts. That's a unique opportunity that means a whole lot for a young offense in need of weapons. Sure Duvernay or Tyler Johnson or whoever could develop into a good player but we are simply not the organization to depend on hitting on those flyers to make our WR group work. Seems like every year the team tells themselves it can wait on WR and then bring in talent in the 5th/6th round only to produce an endless supply of Tommy Streeters, Jaleel Scott's, Mike Campanero's, Jordyn Lasley's, Aaron Mellette's, and David Reed's. I know EDC isn't Ozzie but this is one of those things where I'm going to side with history until he gives me a reason not to. When we draft linebackers or linemen in the 5th or 6th round, I know not to write them off because we've shown we can develop those guys into starters. When we draft WR's in the 5th or 6th round I already know that we're just signing up for 2-3 years of said wideout being a training camp and preseason hypebeast who ends his Ravens career with 7 catches for 56 yards before being cut because he didn't run out a punt coverage hard enough. I agree with everything you said here. Just saying from the draft smoke POV saying we have WRs that could help this team in the 5th round isn’t exactly the same as “we won’t draft a receiver until the 5th round.” I think with the more influence DeCosta has had over the draft in recent years (ala the Lamar Jackson trade up) we’re seeing him more aggressively looking to target the offense for improvements. Double dipping at WR with Lasley and Scott, then double dipping at TE with Hurst and Andrews when we already had Boyle and Maxx Williams, double dipping with Brown/Boykin. Then adding Ingram to a solid stable of RBs. So I think he’s simply saying if the board falls in a way that’s conducive to other positions, passing on a receiver isn’t the end all. Such as if we add two elite IOL options, it would suck if we missed out on a receiver but in that case that would be when we’d go for a Duvernay. We’ve all likely seen it with the draft machine where sometimes an unexpected beast falls in our laps and we’d be fools to say pick Donovan Peoples Jones over a Lloyd Cushenberry/Curtis Weaver/Jonathan Taylor or something along those lines. But I certainly see your point. It would indeed be very disappointing to come away with receivers not on the second tier or above (though I would add Bryan Edwards to your second tier for sure.) diamondbull424
Never understood how he was so far under the radar. To me, I saw similarities to Patrick Queen in speed and instincts right away. He’s older though so when you factor in the potential development for Queen, its fair to assume he could improve past Brooks. But as of right this moment, Brooks is the superior tackler. Queen does seem to take better angles on occasion, but its not necessarily a huge weakness for both players as I’ve seen for other LBs in this class such as with the Oklahoma LB, Murray. SalvadorsDeli
So, of the ILB's likely to go in the 1st 2-3 rounds, am I wrong in thinking Brooks and Harrison probably profile the best in terms of being able to step into a strong-side backer role on running downs? Queen's ability to diagnose run plays deserves recognition. He's displayed high level ability in that regard. Other than that I'm fine with it. Brooks isn't the take on guy Harrison is but he's controlled, knows how to navigate the trash, and is a sound tackler. On that note. I'm excited to see what Alaka can do in year 2, now healthy. Flashed last preseason and he's a natural/perfect fit as a run specialist in our rotation. I think we'll flesh out this LB core nicely. Excited to see who we land.

We are just going to have a super fun day 2 of the draft. I would assume that there will be more teams looking to trade down this year than typically. If one can expect to hit on 50% of their picks in a typical year with good information, I would imagine the number drops this year, with less perfect information to let's say 40%, which makes having more picks even more valuable. alfalcone
Antonio Gibson would do amazing things in our scheme.

The bear case is, unfortunately, Darius Reynaud or Antwan Goodley.

sp6488
Would really like it if we could swing a deal to trade back from 28 and pick up the two colts 2nd rounders. Might work out if Herbert or Love are there when we pick.
