AlexGreen#20 4,345 Posted May 21 Probably not thrilled playing ILB full time. That said, far from a devastating loss. He was playing better at the end of last year as a guy who was playing the starter reps in a platoon.

Cadmus 449 Posted May 21 IF we trade him before the season it'd (obviously) be best to wait until August. You probably couldn't get much for him (if anything), but a few trades that could make sense. Josh Jones for Curtis Riley (Raiders just drafted Abrams, and they have Joseph and Joyner). Gruden loves those # guys Josh Jones for CJ Prosise (Schneider's type of player and they're loaded at RB) Josh Jones for Kenneth Dixon (Ravens loaded at RB, could use S depth) Josh Jones for Tajae Sharpe Josh Jones+ for Taywan Taylor The only way we get anything for him is if it's a conditional pick or a low-end player that's buried on a depth chart. I'm hoping Pettine can convince JJ he has value and a role in this defense - if he works and earns it. I still think he does have that value. Obviously, I cant say Pettine thinks that though. If those conditions dont exist or cant be met - then yeah - get some value for him (in the form of a player IMO). Edited May 21 by Leader
{Family Ghost} 855 Posted May 21 I think I would just prefer they find the guy a role ... he's obviously best around the line of scrimmage and as a blitzer. He's been somewhat productive when he's got a chance to play. I think half of the blame falls on coaching and half with him. It's up to Pettine to find a role for him and let him try to master it. You can't just scrap 2nd round picks. Jones isn't blameless, but he isn't the first Packer player to be miscast the past several years.
MrBobGray 383 Posted May 21 This was always the dark side of Jones' alpha dog type temperament. Can be a hell of a leader if he gets the chance, but if his play doesn't warrant it the attitude can become an anchor. This is a bad look for him because to this point what he's shown on the field hasn't warranted more playing time. It's one thing to be frustrated you aren't getting the opportunities you feel you deserve, but he has had opportunities and there's been as much bad film as good. Even if he wants out of Green Bay, he has to understand he has little trade value, and his game is not going to entice the market much at this point. His best path forward regardless is to keep his head down and keep improving his game. He shouldn't want to leave Green Bay anyway, this is about a prime a place as he'll find. He's a rotational player at this point but honestly if he could get his game to the level where it matched his physical talent he'd be an every down player in a heart beat. The Packers badly need someone to step up at both S and ILB, the two positions he can play in the NFL. Pettine's system has a lot of plays that can get him going downhill, which is what he's best at. This should be a hell of a match if he can just stay improving.
Brat&Beer 20 Posted May 21 Since Jones only wants to honor half of the contract he signed, may I assume he's willing to give back half of the signing bonus he received?

Is GB willing to pay him an exit bonus of twice his salary? Probably not. Most people wouldn't be willing to harm themselves for adhering to a written contract. pacman5252 230 Posted May 22 I don’t think he has shown enough to get more than flyer consideration from other teams. I’m guessing he’d rather have that than be limited to a part time lb and off team in 2 years.
Brat&Beer 20 Posted May 22 Does Jones think the Packers owe it to him to grant his release after paying him about 2.3 million the last 2 years for mediocre production? Or is he delusional enough to think he actually has decent trade value?
OneTwoSixFive 489 Posted May 22 Someone on another site pointed out that the NFL doesn't like 'first contract' guys finding ways of getting a second contract early. Once that business starts, it opens a whole can of worms for lots of players to try and force a second (and potentially much bigger) contract early....not good for the NFL. Jones registered the 3rd most solo tackles on the team during this span and the 2nd most combined tackles overall (solo + assisted). Yep... When he played close to the LOS, he was productive player. The hope is he expands on that.
