Chicago Bears defensive coordiantor Chuck Pagano knows a great safety when he sees one. After all, he coached five-time All Pro and future Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed.

Pagano spent four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, serving as defensive backs coach from 2008-10 and defensive coordinator in 2011, where he coached Reed. He also coached him at the University of Miami.

When speaking with reporters following Wednesday’s organized team activities, Pagano said he sees those same traits in Bears’ third-year safety Eddie Jackson.

Chuck Pagano on comparisons between Eddie Jackson and Ed Reed: "From a talent standpoint, very, very similar. Great instincts, great range, great ball skills. [Jackson] is only three years into it. [Reed] has a lot more time on task. But he's got a lot of the same traits."

In his two seasons in the NFL, Jackson has become one of the premiere safeties in the league. His play-making ability, coupled with his ball skills and natural instincts, have made him a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.

So the question becomes: How good can Jackson become?

Having the guy that coached a Hall of Famer and led that same defense to the top of the ranks in 2011 certainly helps.

For Jackson, there’s an allure about having the guy that coached his idol all those years ago now have the opportunity to do the same for him. Knowing how Pagano helped Reed certainly is an encouraging factor for Jackson, who nabbed his first All Pro nod in his second season.

I think even from a far this was clear to see...Jackson was excellent last year and it was all down to his instincts and anticipation...that ability to see things before they happen is so rare that it's only elite defenders like Reed who it can be compared too.

If only he'd have been healthy for the playoffs. Much regret. :(
