53 man roster predictions

QB: Derek Carr, EJ Manuel, Conor Cook

Neither QB really separated themselves.  We'll like Cook's upside but want to keep EJ because neither inspires too much confidence.  I know I'm extra worried to lose Carr.

HB: Marshawn Lynch, Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington

GAIII has done well all preseason,  Crockett has had good moments too.  Hood never got a chance at all, makes you wonder why.  Maybe he's a slacker or didn't get the playbook well or just got beaten out in practice.  I think he was banged up too.  All in all, I don't think we have a big need for 4 HB's.

FB: Jamaze Olawale

#Jamazing. Nuff said.

WR: Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree, Seth Roberts, Cordarelle Patterson, Johnny Holton, KJ Brent

Brent and Mickens are pretty even to me. I think Brent wins out because he's bigger and can help out on STs with coverage.  We have plenty of return guys.  Could see it go either way.  I think both guys will be on a 53 somewhere.  Hatcher had his moments too.

TE: Jared Cook, Lee Smith, Clive Walford

What'd you expect?

OL:
Donald Penn, David Sharpe, Marshall Newhouse, Vadal Alexander
Gabe Jackson, Kelechi Osemele
Rodney Hudson, Jon Feliciano

Sharpe could be a solid developmental OT. Newhouse played better than I expected.  Alexander looks like an alright backup.  The latter 2 can play G if need be, as can Feli.  Sharpe can play swing OT too.  This is why we like versatile Olineman.

DL: Justin Ellis, Eddie Vanderdoes, Mario Edwards, Jihad Ward, Denico Autry, Treyvon Hester, Darius Latham

I don't think there's really any shockers here.  Except maybe the number of guys I kept.  Autry is great for a rotational guy, Hester can chip in there too.  Latham made it as a run stuffing specialist.  Ward is too green to give up on.

EDGE: Khalil Mack, Bruce Irvin, James Cowser, LaTroy Lewis

Calhoun was not too green to give up on.  Lewis just ate his lunch this preseason.  He made plays every game that I saw.  Calhoun was a ghost the first 3 games, I did not watch the 4th.  I think Calhoun will find a better fit somewhere else.  Cowser looks improved too.

LB: Jelani Jenkins, Cory James, Marquel Lee, Tyrell Adams

I think this is the depth chart too.  Maybe put Lee in run packages.  What Adams vs Morrow came down to was size and experience.  Even for a tweener, Morrow is a bit light.  Could see him stick on the real 53 though.

CB: David Amerson, Sean Smith, Gareon Conley, TJ Carrie, Dexter McDonald, Breon Borders, Antonio Hamilton

I think Borders would definitely get signed somewhere else so I kept him.  He's made plays here and there but also has gotten beaten.  Classic bottom of the roster guy.  Hamilton stays for STs.  I think McDonald has steadily improved every year he's been here.  He could be a serviceable CB4.  Possibly 3 next year after Smith and Carrie are gone.

S: Reggie Nelson, Karl Joseph, Obi Melifonwu, Shalom Luani

I think this is all but carved in stone and has been for a while.  Some of our reserve safeties had good moments too.  I believe Cioffi kept laying the wood.

K: Sebastion Janikowski
P: Marquette King
LS: Jon Condo

Surprise, surprise.

PS: LB Xavier Woodson-Luster, LB Nicholas Morrow, RB Jon Crockett, RB Elijah Hood, OL Ian Silberman, OT Jylan Ware, CB Keith Durden, WR Keon Hatcher, S Anthony Cioffi, S Marcus McWilson

IR: Jaydon Mickens

Its a crying shame he has the same injury Marquette King had a few years back

I'm really hoping E. Hood was kept out because of his level of talent/potential and not due to his inability to grasp the playbook.  I'm honestly pulling for him because of his character and because I think he may have the ability to take over the big RB duties after Lynch retires again.

S&B88 I'm not going to post an entire 53 man, because I agree with about 95% of your roster.

These are the areas that I think may be off however.

HB: I agree that its reasonable that we only carry three based on the talent at the position, but based off recent trends I think Crockett makes the 53. I was hoping to see more of Hood in the pre-season, I think its a sign he wont make it. Glad you had him on the PS.

CB: I don't think we keep 7 on the 53, I agree Borders wouldn't make it to the PS, Hamilton gets the ax.

Overall I think your roster is pretty realistic and will mirror the actual roster well, I like the guys you picked on the PS as well.

I thinkit was David Carr talking about a coversation he had with Derek about Hood.  Said He could ask him about a play and he knew his responsibility and everyone else's.

Won't be far off. Think we add an extra OL (Ware) and lose a WR (Brent). I think we will keep Calhoun and look to stash Lewis.

With Smith and Obi seeing time as a nickel LB we may only go with 3 ILBs to get someone like Crockett RB on the roster.

I'm not sure on where we are cap wise, but might be a chance Seabass gets cut with his $4m cap hit, especially if we need to create some room.

Good job S&B88 I don't think you're far off at all.

Similar sentiments from me to Dessie above, however, I think we keep 1 less CB and 1 more OL, possibly Kirkland and we may try and get Ware to the PS.

Yeah I watched a couple of videos and read some articles about him.  He achieved eagle scout and he seems to be a really nice person.  I really hope they can hide him on the PS for a year or two and then bring him in after M. Lynch retires again to take over as the big RB duties.

Thanks guys, I should have made this thread thursday for more people to post.  Although I feel most people would have had a similar consensus.  Even still, some of the things I thought were obvious haven't panned out so we'll see.
