Guest
https://www.vikings.com/video/korey-stringer-remembered-13357155 The story of Korey Stringer is intimately tied to the story of the Vikings for the last 18 years. Of course, the reason the stories are tied are because of Stringers tragic death in 2001. If Korey had not died, the Vikings would've been one of the favorites to go to the Super Bowl. The Vikings offense, on paper, could've been something really special. Stringer, Steussie, Dixon, Birk playing on the line...Robert Smith in the backfield...Moss and Carter at receiver...and Daunte Culpepper coming off a really good season before. But, Stringer sadly died on August 1, 2001, collapsing in practice from heat stroke. What if? Maybe Dennis Green lasts a few more seasons...especially if he got the Vikings to the Super Bowl...Maybe Red McCombs, with a taste of victory in his mouth, would've stopped being a cheap sumbitch and the Vikings could've kept their core players and staff...Maybe after a Super Bowl, McCombs leads a charge for a new stadium that would've taken away from us fans all the drama about them possibly leaving Minnesota...Maybe Culpepper wouldn't have ruined his knee and continued to develop into something special...maybe Moss wouldn't have wanted to leave and gone to Oakland... However, what you and I, as Vikings fans need to remember is just what a fine offensive lineman Stringer truly was. If you look at the highlights, there is one spectacular play where Stringer blocks a whole wall of NY Giants allowing for a big Robert Smith run. Stringer was big and powerful and pretty quick for a guy his size. He could've been All Pro for many years. Rest in Peace Korey Stringer. After his death, we made the playoffs 1 time in 7 years.

That is a fair point...his death marked the last of the 4 top-shelf offensive linemen that made up the '98 offensive line that were gone (even though saying Steussie was top-shelf was really stretching it by that time). Only Dixon was left after his death and while he was certainly competent, he wasn't even an above-average OG at his peak, and it took awhile before Birk solidified himself and McKinnie came in...otherwise, they were starting guys who should have only been backups (although they were solid backups) in Chris Liwienski and Corbin Lacina. Cearbhall
RIP There is a 77 in heaven I hope Kelci and Kodie are doing okay. The team and its struggles on the offensive line since then are comparatively inconsequential.
