AFC EAST Talk

"Miami may not have covered every position of need this year, but they covered a lot of them. They replaced the starting QB with another, Jay Cutler, that has experience in the offensive system. They handed him the reigns to an offense featuring three of the most promising young receivers as starters, two more on the bench. Two tight ends that rival the tight ends Cutler had with the Chicago Bears, a running back who is just starting to reach his potential, and an offensive line featuring not one, not two, but three former first round picks.

A bulk of the off season was spent building a defense filled with promising youth, and productive veterans. The special teams was a burden in the off season, so both the kicker and punter were replaced, and the team was retooled in hopes that it fixes the third facet of the football team.

In this, I think the team only managed to get better. A combo of linebackers Lawrence Timmons, and Kiko Alonso build the foundation of support for the front four that features two of the best defensive linemen the game has ever seen in defensive end Cameron Wake and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Behind them is one of the most underrated safeties the game has known in Reshad Jones, and a group of promising young guys at corner.

Yes the competition has only gotten more difficult, but so has playing the Dolphins. This is why I think they make the playoffs again." dolphinfan4lyfe.

"With the reins of the roster, they’ve overhauled the depth chart at a blistering pace not seen since Chip Kelly began micromanaging his first NFL team.  If you don’t fit the scheme we’re planning, you’re less useful than a rookie we can draft a year or two down the road.

Bills have embraced veteran experience, practically to a fault. Starting linebackers Lorenzo Alexander and Ramon Humber are 34 and 30, respectively. Their running back corps includes a 28 year old fullback, a 31 year old fullback, two 29 year old halfbacks, and a 28 year old halfback. The offensive line, from left to right, is 27, 34, 31, 24/29, and 26. The Bills just gave a raise to Eric Wood, making him one of the priciest centers in the league, despite his age.

Even the youth is old. Only 15 players on the 53 man roster are under the age of 25. Thanks to Buffalo’s embrace of senior prospects in the draft, not a single player on the roster is younger than 22

This team will likely get worse before it gets better. A young core needs to form, and longtime veterans that the team embraces today (Kyle Williams, Alexander, Wood) may not make it through the transition. Building around college seniors and veterans may help speed the process, but the rebuild is still coming." Dan Lavoie.

"With the Jets clearly positioning themselves for 2018 and beyond, 2017 has become a sort of tryout year. Few players on this roster can feel safe if they have a tough year. It’s going to be a competitive environment within the roster.

Looking at the squad that’s been put together, most who follow the team are willing to go into evaluation mode and judge the team not based on wins and losses, but based on the development of its young talent." Ganggreenyonkers.
