Interesting move with the Irv Smith selection.

Two different positions — they’ll use Smith as an H-back / move TE, and Rudolph as a Y / inline TE.

They’re running Kubiak’s offense, expect them to use 12 personnel as their base.

Exhibit R for why everyone needs to shut up about cap space mattering. The Vikings are paying a top QB contract AND gave pretty much their entire roster a big long term deal.

Vikings have no less than 14 starters on veteran contracts signed at least through 2020. 11 of them are making $10M AAV or more, Rudolph will be 12th in line at $9M. Plus Trae Waynes is playing his 5th year option for $9.1M.

Good contract for all the teams of young tifht ends, keeping the top value around 9-10 million per year. The top tight ends deserve 14-16 per year in this market, but arent getting close to it.

Bronk probably depressed the market somewhat with his team friendly contracts

Is it though? Philly had Ertz and then selected Goedert

Rudolph the Overpaid Tight End

Doesn't make a ton of plays

And if you ever drafted him

You would wonder if he even played on Sunday

The fact that the agent/agency hasn't leaked the guaranteed value of the contract yet ... means I'm hoping its not massively favorable to Rudolph.

Ian Rapoport✔@RapSheet

On the 4-year, $36M extension the #Vikings & TE Kyle Rudolph agreed to last night that accomplished his ultimate goal of staying in Minnesota: Rudolph gets $1.625M additional this year added to his $7.625M base, per source. $9M fully guaranteed in all. $16.025 in total guarantees.

Nothing wrong with a QB that can play 16 games a year
