Barry Sanders and his "negative runs" seemingly being some astronomical number that no one else was close to ……. 

Except quite a few people were and Emmitt even had MORE negative carries than Barry (And that does not include his first couple years or his stint in Arizona). Barry has the record for # of yards lost, but Emmitt is actually the leader in number of negative carries.

TBH someone should also make a video compilation of all the other runs Barry was doomed to have a loss on a sweep/outside carry and wriggle his way back to the line of scrimmage or for a gain of +1/+2 yards. It was incredible.

I remember a few years ago there was a highlight clip of 10 of his runs. Just 10. 

2 of them were actually catches but out of the 8 runs, he was met at or behind the line of scrimmage on 6 of those runs (3 of them he was met by more than 1 defender). He also made a total of 27 people miss on those 10 runs. That's not even counting people who crazily dove at him but didn't really have good position. I'm talking 27 times that someone had squared up or close enough to get hands on him and he made them miss. 27 OFF OF 10 PLAYS. That's insane.

People always blame Ernest Byner for single handedly costing the Browns vs. the Broncos in "The Fumble", but most don't realize that the Browns were down 2-3 possessions at halftime and Byner almost single handedly put that team on his back to rally a phenominal comeback. They also forget that the score would have only tied the game, Elway still had 1 minute left, and had he not driven them down the field for the game winning TD/Field goal, they still had only a 50/50 chance of winning the coin toss in OT.

I'm not sure if it qualifies, but the reaction to the missed PI call was crazy. There's no way that the Saints just knee it and play for the field goal, as in that scenario the Rams would have been left with almost 20-ish seconds left - plenty of time to get into FG range for Zuerlein to attempt a long FG.

Assuming they run the ball, and Payton was caught mic'd saying he wanted to score a TD, it's likely the Rams allow them to score, in which case the Rams have 1:30 and a TO to go down and tie the game - considering how much they were going through the Saints defense, a definite possibility that the game still goes to OT.

The third option and smartest choice would have been to run the ball and tell the RB not to score - but Payton showed that this would be unlikely when he passed on first down after the two minute warning. People determined that one of the most aggressive coaches in NFL history would suddenly play so conservatively..

 

In either of the first two scenarios, the game could have still gone to OT.

 

It was an egregious missed call, but it did not decide the game - one play never does. And the irony is that the Saints were the benefactor of two blown PI calls that went against the Steelers earlier in the season, which ultimately cost the Steelers a playoff spot.

 

And of course back in 2009 you had the NFL apologizing to the Vikings for a missed call that could have altered the outcome of the NFCCG.

 

That doesn't even get into the specific game itself, in which there were multiple blown calls throughout the game for both teams.

 

When you combine all of these things, the outrage was shocking to me. And while the team would never acknowledge this, I will go to my grave thinking that the country's reaction affected the team's play in the Super Bowl.

Again not an example of a mandela effect.  It's just someone griping about other people's perceptions.

Mandela effect, ie Jerry Rice won 4 SBs.  He didnt he only won 3, the 9ers won 5, Joe won 4, but the first 2 were w/o Jerry.  He then won a 3rd w/ Steve young.  Or that Tony Mandarich was #1 overall pick.  He wasnt, he was #2, Troy Aikman went #1.  The Mandela effect is when we swear we remember something happening that didnt.  For instance I swear on my gf and mine first date that she got the frozen banana from the ice cream shop we went to.  She didnt, but I remember clear as day that she did.  It's our brain playing tricks on us.

• Multiple Pro Bowl O-lineman
  • Lomas Brown went to 7 Pro Bowls
  • Kevin Glover went to 3 Pro Bowls
• Very good WRs.
  • Herman Moore was a beast from 94-97 and very good from 92-98
  • Perriman had 2500 yards and 14 TDs in 95-96 combined
    • Add in Johnny Morton in 95-96 and their 3 WR package was as good as anyone
• Playoffs in 5 of his last 8 seasons after building up for 2 years from a 4-12 team that was in position to draft him.
• They were in the NFCCG in year 3
• They went 8-8 and 9-7 in the 2 years after he quit.
• He was by far their best player and maybe the best RB ever, but he was not stuck on a horrible team.

If you want to say he never had a great QB, fine... but that covers most NFL players.

The specific Mandella effect in Deflategate would be that many people remember the lies as if they were truth

• 11 of 12 balls was pure league propaganda but it was allowed to stand for months
• Brady and Belichick were not reacting to accusations they were reacting to proof that all the balls were doctored.
  • Like everyone else, they trusted the leagues lies and were genuinely stunned as to how such a thing could have happened without them knowing about it
  • These guys were genuinely confused because all the balls were very likely not doctored and they were asked to explain something that probably did not happen
• How dare they come across as flustered and not having all the answers to a scenario in an alternate fake news universe
• Celebrities like Bill Nye and Neil Degrasse-Tyson were convicting them when using the fake numbers from the NFL
• Mark Brunell had a mini emotional breakdown about it on the air (again, based on misinformation)

The specific Mandella Effect on SpyGate is the team walktrough videos

• There are Rams and Eagles fans who swear that was a true story (Marshall Faulk is the worldwide leader in walkthrough tinfoil)
  • Likely millions of other teams fans as well (and lots of NFL players)
  • The guy who reported it admitted he was lying and the newspaper and ESPN issued actual retractions.
    • ESPN stayed classy and retracted at like 3 AM when everyone was asleep

Its like how people remember the Colts sweeping for bugs story as 'that's how big of cheaters the Patriots really are'.

• All that story proved was that the Patriots were the only team in the NFL that had an independent certification of a bug free locker room (from the Colts)

for the longest I thought the immaculate reception game was the AFC title game in 74 leading to the steelers winning the SB that yr

when in reality it was the 72 div game and the steelers lost next week against Miami

The Mandella Effect is a large number of people sharing a false memory  (end of definition)

• There is no Oxford Dictionary disclaimer as to why they share the memory.
• Back in the day people may have thought it was time travel or the multiverse or some other really bizarre reason

Any belief you individually have that does not line up with reality is mistakenly called the Mandella Effect

Thinking Rice won 4 Super Bowls when he was drafted in 1985 is not a more pure example than thinking the Patriots taped Super Bowl walkthroughs.

• You have no memory of Jerry Rice celebrating in January 1985 championship.
• You have no memory of Rice winning a 49ers Super Bowl in the seasons when he did not.
• He was so much a great part of that 49ers dynasty that you project him backwards
• The flip side of this is that some people will also subtract credit from Montana because he had Rice (but reality is he won 2 without Rice)
• Many people share this belief so it qualifies, right?
