Worst Off-Season Ever?

2005 for the Bills easy.

Lost Pat Williams, Jonas Jennings and traded away Drew Bledsoe after going 9-7 and being the best team to ever miss the playoffs statistically.  The worst was still yet to come.

JP Losman became their starter, Kevin Everette nearly died on the field in game 1 and then TKO tore his ACL in week 3.

Probably not the worst but the first thing that comes to mind is 2011.

- "Dream Team" ... f u Vince Young
- Our OL Coach, Juan Castillo, was promoted to DC... ???
- Our first four draft picks were Danny Watkins, Jaquan Jarrett, Curtis Marsh, and Casey Matthews...

No this is it. Still have PTSD from listening to that idiot make a comment as if he was anyone that should be talking ish?

I remember watching that draft at a sports bar and eating a handful of triple atomic wings. My mouth was on fire and I was miserable for the next hour or so... It's very fitting that happened.

A double whammy crud off-season for the Rams.

2017 off-season:

COACHING SITUATION: We lost one of the most respected coaches of all time in the NFL and replaced him with the riskiest head coach hire ever in the youngest head coach who was almost completely unproven as just a poor man's Shanahan clone.

FREE AGENCY: Paid Robert Woods, who had never had 700 yards in a season, 40 million. Paid old man Andrew Whitworth to come to LA and retire. Paid Alec Ogletree buckets of money for him to jump ship and go to the Giants a year later. Let our top receiver walk in free agency, someone who managed to get over 1,000 yards with a historically bad passing offense. Brought in a new center who was never dominant and had declined recently to the point of not even being a starter after a season ending injury years prior. Did nothing to upgrade the running back group after Todd Gurley was awful in 2016, even though we kept insisting on upgrading the running back position for years in a row prior, chasing out productive RBs for our team in Isaiah Pead, Zac Stacy, and Tre Mason to bring Gurley in. Refused to let our offensive line gel, moving around our top investments like former number 2 overall pick Greg Robinson and Rob Havenstein before cutting Robinson, who went on to be pretty good for the Lions and Browns.

DRAFT: We had no first-rounder. Gave up the chance to draft the most productive college wide receiver EVER at our actual draft pick to trade down. Drafted an undersized small-school tight end with no blocking ability with our top draft pick. Our other top three picks were an extremely slow FCS wide receiver who stunk up the Combine and didn't have the size to box out DBs and a safety who wasn't even on most people's draft boards. Drafted a bunch of wasted picks afterwards.

Talk about awful.

I remember that offseason where people were crushing the Rams. How dare they go get the youngest coach in NFL history. He wont be able to handle the lockeroom. Overpaying for Woods who was a bust in Buffalo. Overpaying for Watkins who is so injury prone. Drafted a tight end in Everett from a small school and the oldest receiver in Kupp from a small school. Overpaid for Whitworth who only came to the Rams because he wanted to get his last big payday. Not to mention people still was thinking McVay was going to get rid of Goff for Cousins as soon as the season was over and that Gurley wasnt going to thrive in the system because the Redskins was 25th in rushing offense under McVay as the OC the previous season. So yeah the Rams got crushed that offseason.

Post Super Bowl Ravens. The last one.

Half thar SB winning defense left and either got paid elsewhere or retired. Ray Lewis especially, and Flaaco got that Big Mac money.

They really werent the same identity after that. Just another AFC team watching the Patriots got to SB after SB.

Disagree with this one. There wasn't really a single offseason that significantly brought the Ravens down.

First of all, after 1 .500 season the 2014 team was really good, winning in the playoffs on the road in Pittsburgh and going blow for blow with arguably the strongest Patriots team of dynasty2.0.

Beyond that the Ravens are technically a bit over .500 post-SB. The reason for the decline from perennial postseason game winner to very slightly above-average team is more fundamental than any particular offseason. The 2008-2012 run was fueled by 2 first ballot Hall of Famers at the end of their run and some near HoF'ers (Suggs, Yanda, Ngata) who were in their prime, and Ray Rice who had a brief run of greatness. Obviously as they left/declined, the team fell off. The Ravens have actually turned in plenty of fine to good offseasons since then, but they haven't replaced the blue chips. After that second group, I don't even think the Ravens drafted anyone who was a top 30 player in the entire NFL. So that has more to do with why they declined. Even with a 10 win season, is there going to be a single Raven on that top 100 players list? They're actually doing pretty well given that lack of star talent

TLDR: The Ravens didn't have a terrible offseason that ruined the team, they just have gone a long awhile since have that amazing offseason that brought blue chip game changers.

Totally forgot about the Watkins move. Okay, that one was genuinely not great. Same with Ogletree. For the most part after that, pretty much everything panned out.

I remember how everyone flipped out when they spent a 3rd rounder on John Johnson III. Everyone was like, "Who?" But yeah, everyone was trashing them. I can't believe how many people told me they were the worst team in the league. Now, of course, basically everyone will say that they knew the Rams would be good.

Washington was the team that I was rooting for to win in the 2015 playoffs and during the latter portion of the 2016 season when the Rams were abysmal and eliminated from contention so I was very familiar with McVay and a huge fan. I liked how the Redskins rushing attack went with McVay when he had healthy RBs. The issue was that they were always hurt, but when they had a healthy Fat Rob in 2016, that running game was dominant. And that passing attack was great with D-Jax, Pierre Garcon, Jordan Reed, and Jamison Crowder all being productive.

1998 when the chargers traded 2 firsts, a second and a pro bowler to move up one spot in the draft to get the second choice of quarterbacks in the draft. They subsequently then gave the guy the largest signing bonus of any rookie up to that point. That guy went on to fly on the owners jet to Vegas that night and party all night long leading to him yawning in his first press conference and starting the media against him. After struggling on the field, he has a complete meltdown when the media questions him about his poor play. Ends up out of the league in under 5 years, addicted to pain killers and sentenced to prison. Set the franchise back years.

Baalke drafted A.J. Jenkins in the 1st rd. Therefore, Harbaugh was actually fired on that day but nobody knew it yet.

2007 is up there as well.

Fired Marty well into the off-season, which lead to us missing out on good candidates at the time like Tomlin and Whiz.

Raiders 2008 offseason comes to mind. I think we spent the most out of any team in free agency that year and every single one of our free agent signings busted in comical fashion.

DeAngelo Hall - 7 yrs/72 million, got cut after like 6 games into the season. Absolutely sucked playing across from Nnamdi.

Javon Walker - 6 years/55 million. Caught 15 passes for less than 200 yards in his career with raiders. Off the team in two years.

Gibril Wilson - 6 years/39 million. Cut after one year of disappointing play.

Kwame Harris - 3 years/17 million. Widely recognized as one of the worst tackles in NFL history. Benched and cut after one year.

Signed Drew Carter to be our #2 WR - Tore his ACL in preseason.

Resigned Tommy Kelly to one of the biggest deals ever for a DT when nobody really knew of him. Solid player but probably not worth the money he got.

Just every single decision was epically bad. This is also an offseason where Jamarcus Russell came into OTAs weighing 300 pounds, Lane Kiffin and Al Davis started their fued and we drafted Darren McFadden who ended up being an injury bust.

Post 2011.  Head coach suspended for a season, other coaches suspended for half the season.  Left with Aaron Kromer as head coach.  Veteran defensive guys suspended, Brees gets his hundred million.

Was the end of the superbowl era team.
