Krause made another list...albeit only as an honorable mention...this guy's list of top 5 all-time safeties...

I always did like Atwater, but I do struggle putting him at #5 all-time.

Another doofus who doesn't believe that football was played before 1983!  Ridiculous that Krause isn't one of the top 5 as the all-time interception leader (and most likely always will be the all-time interceptions leader) in the NFL.

My assumption is that the guys that run that site, as they had alluded to in the post I linked to yesterday, just aren't old enough to speak intelligently to those that played before 1983.  I certainly can't speak to Krause myself, because I wasn't old enough to consciously watched him (I was like 5 when he retired).  It's for that reason alone why I always clarify rankings as to players I actually watched play.  It's why I say Barry Sanders is the best RB I've ever seen play, because I never watched Jim Brown, so I can't speak to him specifically on an intelligent level in comparison.

Yet nothing stops you or them to delve into the history of professional football.  As I said yesterday, I never saw Otto Graham or Sammy Baugh throw a single pass, but as I've read about them, and heard others talk about them, and as I've begun to understand their position as historical figures in professional football, I can say that they are among the best QB's to  ever play the game.  It's the self-limitation, especially of sports writers, of only thinking of those that they actually saw play, that really bothers me.

The thing that stops me from watching every game the Vikings have ever played is the NFL does not make them available. So yeah, nothing stops me from delving into things somewhat, but there is something that stops me from really delving as deep as I want. Thankfully, some complete games have made their way out to YouTube so I have had the chance to actually watch some players of yore rather than rely on stats and secondhand accounts.

I agree. The NFL needs to make more of these historical games readily available so that everyone can see for themselves how great players like Krause, Johnny Unitas, and George Blanda really were. I'd rather not have to revisit our Super Bowl losses to see more of Jack Lambert in action, for example.

I'm really curious why no Top 10 specialists list @Virginia Viking? Would love to see where Gary would be ranked...

Ummm....I'll leave it to someone else to do kickers, punters, and long snappers.  Maybe you??
