France will place in the tournament and has a chance to win it depending on what happens with the US. They have 5 NBA players on their roster and Theo Maledon who will be a top 5 pick in next years draft at PG.

With the number of guys that have pulled out I won't be surprised if USA falls short of a gold medal this year. Coach K really had changed the culture and guys wanted to play in international competition. Now that he's gone guys seemingly don't want to play anymore. NYRaider
As of right now the guys trying out for roster spots has been reduced to: Harrison Barnes Andre Drummond Kyle Kuzma Damian Lillard Kevin Love Brook Lopez Kyle Lowry Khris Middleton Paul Millsap Donovan Mitchell Marcus Smart Jayson Tatum PJ Tucker Myles Turner Kemba Walker There's no guarantee that a group of 12 of these guys is going to steam roll the tournament. @MookieMonstah

Most of those guys would be the best or 2nd best player on France or Serbia lol. That team is SO much deeper than any other international team, its not even close. USA team is head and shoulders above the world, even without the stars.
MookieMonstah
I mean 95% of the France and Serbia teams would be role players on NBA teams

USA basketball fans have been spoiled by Coach K. Before he took over the program Team USA won the Bronze medal with a team full of elite players. This years group of guys trying out isn't that great, only 4 guys made the All-Star team last season. Just because you've never heard of the non-NBA guys on international rosters doesn't mean that they're not good. Trust me, the USA will have competition in the tournament this year. kyle21121
This US team sure as hell could win but it’s not steamrolling teams. If those are the players (12 of those 15) than I may put some money on Spain or someone else. This definitely isn’t a guarantee.

And then Spain and Argentina fell off and a serious threat hasn't really risen again for us to be serious about the WCs. Plus the WCs were always lesser or upcoming players than the Olympics. And now the rest era is upon us, so guys are probably not wanting to put miles on their body. Edited July 23, 2019 by 11sanchez11

Kemba Walker would be the best player on most of these countries, probably all of them outside of Greece. I’ll be legitimately surprised if the USA loses a game. USA finished 6th the last time they sent an IDGAF team. This team is closer to that than any other recent team.

The USA team even without its studs is so much deeper and has better top end players.

They’ll be playing veteran teams and players that have played together for a decade in their programs. This team could totally lose games. This tournament is basically meaningless though so it is whatever the real Olympic team will be much different.
