Between Brauns at-em ball with the bases loaded, Shaw getting a walkoff hit that literally landed on the RF and the whole top of the 9th and that garbage, just have to laugh. Bad luck? How about bad approach at the plate? Until this bunch can figure out how to get a clutch hit and/or get a deep enough fly ball with less than 2 outs and a guy at 3rd we will continue to lose games like this like we have since the AS break. Game should've never gone to extras, just total luck in the top of the 9th on the part of the Cubs. Walker should've probably never fielded that ball. The approach at the plate was fine, Braun hit one right on the nose with the bases loaded that clears the bags if it was a foot to the left or right. Then Shaw with runners on first and second hits one so hard that they held Walker in the 9th. They got the contact they needed with runners on, just bad luck. Lol I don't know every rule in baseball like football but that seems about as productive as tackling a WR and then intercepting a ball. Like that's why there are rules to prevent it. I mean honestly, it didn't really look like Russell did anything wrong there. He didn't really push him off the bag, just held the tag. Most of our success in the first half was due to having a 19.2% HR/FB rate. Once that stabilized back down towards league average (we're at ~15% HR/FB in the 2nd half), we've struggled mightily to score runs consistently. There's no denying that our approach at the plate is a problem. We lead the league in K rate (25.7%) and it's even worse in the 2nd half (26.5%) while getting less HRs.
