Lee doesn't have a role here in Dallas and is trade bait because he's on an expiring. Usually when you trade an expiring, you acquire someone who has an extra year or more on their current deal. That's the value of the expiring on the trade market. Mavs could keep it for themselves, but it won't put them under the salary cap next summer, and they probably shouldn't be under the cap next offseason either, since they will likely want the full non-TP MLE to use. Maybe they could use it on a guy like Joe Harris or Bertans.
