What Does Everyone Do For a Side Hustle?

Recommended Posts

Piggybacking off of the "What Does Everyone Do For a Living" thread, thought I'd throw this out there. What does everyone do (or would like to do) for a side hustle/secondary income? Whether that be Uber, investing, running a business, being the Webmaster of a football forum, etc.

I make pretty good $$$ as a software engineer, but I'm still trying to figure out my side hustle/business. The goal is early retirement, but how to get there, no idea lol. I know I have a very marketable skill set, but my biggest problem is I've been too lazy to do more programming outside of work and my investing has largely been limited to just index funds.

A lot of people know, but I play poker as a "side hustle". Wouldn't do it full time unless I lost my job, but it makes a decent amount of money given the actual hours I put in. If I just stuck to 2-5, I'd have a stronger profile, but I insist on trying to step up my game to 5-10 every now and again and have suffered a bit for it in my graph.

After rewiring my garage this weekend, that is NOT going to be my side hustle.

Primarily I do a little woodworking on the side. Talking fine woodworking, not your 2x4 carpentry (though I do help friends with that kind of stuff when they need it).

I ain't got time for a side hustle anymore, but because of that I don't need a side hustle.

I used to test websites and that made me a hell of a lot of money.  I also used to transcribe online.  I also used to buy low and sell high on Craigslist and at garage sales/thrift stores.  Made a killing doing that, but where I'm living now doesn't really provide the resources I need.

I also used to go to all retail stores and look through their clearance sections for things I could sell for a profit.  My biggest score was 30 PSVR games that hit clearance at Walmart and were selling for 10 dollars higher at Gamestop.  Quickest 300 I ever made legally since the Gamestop was right next to Walmart.

I also took advantage of literally every single free money offer I could find online.  Had like 20 bank accounts at one point.

Right now my side hustle is investing in friends/family.  Got a large investment in a cousin studying to be something I can't even pronounce.  Put in lots of hours befriending an uncle and a grandma to become their benefactors.  Invested 1,000 in my sister's boyfriend's exterminator business that's already been paid off, so that's nice.

People say never lend money to family, but I've found the perfect loophole, which is investing in family.  Maybe I'm an exception that proves the rule, but I've made a lot of money off that so far.

They say that not because you can't make money, but because you have to be ready to cut them out of your life if they don't repay.

Strictly live. 2-5 is my bread and butter, I'll play 5-10 every now and again

How often do you play and what do you usually buy in with?

Love poker, i play every few months at casinos, closest one to me is about an hour away. I wanna be able to have a set stash to play with eventually.
