kingseanjohn
An early look at Veach's first draft is not looking too good going into year two. Nnadi is the best pick at this point and, while still early, he's not in the starting lineup at training camp. He'll play for sure and be a good guy to have in the rotation. While I like Watts, he's on the bubble with Lucas I think. I could see the rest of this class not making the roster this year, contracts not considered. RedGold
There is a guy with Speaks profile in every draft, 9/10 they don't pan out. Not saying he's a bust yet, but it was the main reason I didn't like trading up for him. Still think Nnadi, O'Daniel, Watts, and McKenzie have a spot on this team... but not really an exciting class. (Don't really care about not having a 1st either, as we haven't had one in either of Veach's drafts, eventually that will come back to bite you)
onejayhawk
I get that no one outperformed their draft slot by a lot, but it still looks pretty good. Speaks is a keeper who is stuck behind some veterans that know the system better than he does. Unlike Kpassagnon, he isn't an athleticism oriented player. So, there is a learning curve. Nnadi is the best pick and even you say so. Do'D is 1000 picks into the draft. He's doing fine. Watts is a fan favorite, but he's the closest to unemployment IMO. He still makes the team but I would not bet on making the playoff roster. Smith and McKenzie were fliers to start with. If either makes the 2020 roster it's a win. The only disappointment is Speaks, and he's not a big disappointment. DE is a job that takes learning.

I think the draft class with the new defense is what I'm most looking forward to on Saturday. That and how well Tanoh does.
onejayhawk
TK has been much mentioned, as has the depth of the DL. Speaks may be third or fourth on the depth chart, but they like him. It has been interesting to see the names coming up at LB. Hitchens was expected, but Ben Niemann is getting attention. Will we be seeing a Wilson, Hitchens, Niemann base set up? Will it be Niemann or Hitchens to stay in for the nickel package? We know that Spagnuolo likes players who can handle multiple roles. I just want someone to get Ragland properly on the bench. I'm not sure I care who.

I still think he can have a role somewhere, although I'm skeptical of it being in a 4/3. He was beasting it in 2017, I just think his brain was overloaded last year. Word from camp is that Ragland looks quicker and slimmed down
onejayhawk
Quick and fast seem to be bywords, even with the big guys on the DL. Interestingly, I heard Chris Jones come up in an Aaron Donald conversation. The topic was who the second best DT in the NFL was. On another note, Donald has moved JJ Watt off the #1 slot in the NFL defensive pecking order. J
Habbsawce
Personally, I think this defensive formation is better suited for DoD's skill set. I could see him getting a chance to shine at some point and running with it.
onejayhawk
Adding Claiborne could help a lot--after his 4 game suspension. https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2019/08/08/kansas-city-chiefs-to-sign-free-agent-cb-morris-claiborne/ J
Edge
I'm not sure he will help a lot, but it's a good signing for the depth at the position.

Ragland has uses. His problem is mobility. The wheels are not going to get much better, but he did slim down for training camp. J
