When Jimmy Smith abruptly retired in May, 2006, The Jaguars spent a decade trying to find even a somewhat competent WR. And outside of 2016, they still haven't found one. Every one they think they found ends up getting multiple injuries or into drugs and never ends up being the player they think they found.

Same for their quarterback situation. Brunell wasn't the the greatest, but I don't think the Jaguars have had a decent quarterback since then.

I don't know if people considered him a great player but the Titans have been trying to find a Derrick Mason level WR since he left.

We haven't had a WR have back to back 1000 yard season since Mason left, in 2004. In fact, the only WRs to go for over 1000 yards (in the 15 years since Mason's departure) have been Nate Washington in 2011(at only 1023 yards) and Kendall Wright in 2013 (at 1079 yards).
