Kaare Vedvik traded to the Vikings for a 5th

Also good luck to Vedvik in Minnesota. Seemed like a really good dude. I’m down for assisting another purple squad.

Though did anyone else find it funny that it’s the Vikings that traded for Vedvik considering how Vikings and Rams fans tried to downplay the greatness that was Justin Tucker back when Greg Zuerlein and Blair Walsh were thought to be better. Funny how all that has aged.

hope he works out for us. our special teams play has been inconsistent for years, to use a polite term.

He's got ridiculous natural leg strength. If he keeps up the technique he's honed working with Ravens coaching staff for two offseasons, it'll be worth the draft pick. I don't know if last year counted as an accrued season, since it was an off the field injury, so he's going to be real cheap for a while, which helps for a contending veteran team.

and he punts too? i mean, he can free up a traditional roster spot? two for one?

I think there's a decision to be made if its worth the loss of specialization to do both in exchange for an extra roster spot.

But yea, he certainly looks like a good punter. Had this BOMB in college:

For a 5th, I would say at least give him a chance to punt. The thing we haven't seen is his ability to make precision punts. If you however need a huge leg to get you out of your own redzone, this seems to be your guy. You got a young player with some upside, and if he can actually both kick and punt, that extra roster spot could prove extremely valuable as it allows you to carry a specialist or a young development player.

Best of luck with Vedvik, I hope he does well with the Vikings.

Am I really that naive to think we could've gotten more for someone as talented as Vedvik?

I think a 5th is about right. I mean, he's never kicked in the regular season. If he misses a few kicks early, he'll be cut and it would be a complete loss for the FO that traded him. Lots of guys with great leg talent can't cut it in the NFL, once they have to kick when pressure is on. Vedvik is still an unknown.

That's more than I was expecting, and earlier in the pre-season too

Good luck in Minny Kaare

Yeah, initially I thought the same but I guess it makes sense both ways. Vedvik did this type of performance last preseason, so he’s shown a good track record of ability to this point. I’m sure the Vikings want him to acclimate into a rhythm with their current place holder and long snapper before the season starts, the rest of the preseason gives them that time to groove. And for the Ravens it makes sense in that you don’t risk Vedvik having a let down performance that lowers his value, could also make the case that Tucker gets more in-game practice for the season to be clicking on all cylinders from the jump.
