2018 NFL Draft Thread

I'm keeping my eyes on a few players at the moment.

Obviously super homer but I love Michigan's DT Maurice Hurts, and Florida's DT Taven Bryan. Both kinda of penetrating type DT's that I think can play long-term next to A'shawn Robinson. Haloti Ngata future seems to be in the air. I'd offer another 2 year deal worth anywhere around 6-8 million because as a NT and run stuff he's actually worth it still.

I also like a few RB's obviously Barkley but we'll have to almost certainly trade up if you want him, I like Guice, Chubb, and Damien Harris as well. My ideal situation is drafting the top defensive player(whoever people feel like that is in the first round) and then follow it up with one of the three I mentioned in the 2nd.

Pretty early though in this process. Combine really makes or breaks players, and bowl games/injuries and still to be sifted through.

In the early going though I'd draft Maruice Hurts 1st round assuming we're around the 20th pick, and then follow up with Guice or Damien Harris, But thats just a pre-set wish, liosn might sign a RB before the draft making this moot.

Well I mean, Healthy isn't this a decent O-line? Taylor Decker isn't going to be sidelined forever. I'm not saying a RB alone can make the Lions a top 10 rushing team but there's a difference between guys that can run through contact and what Abdullah/Riddick bring to the table. Maybe you are right though, that guy doesn't have to be the 2nd round really.

We have 2 really good players in Decker and Lang. Wagner is average to above average. Swanson and Glasgow have shown some potential so far, but neither are actually playing well with any sort of consistency. So that's 2/5 good, 1/5 kinda good, and 2/5 not cutting it. We could use some upgrades. Also, with Lang only a 3 year deal, it would be wise to draft one this year or next year in case he doesn't stay around or gets worse with age.

Yeah I don't disagree with that, Lions have three above average linemen, two meh, but serviceable linemen, to me though there isn't a glaring hole imo, when healthy.

Lions might even get an upgrade by just moving Glasgow over to C and search for a good LG or give the opportunity to Robinson/Mihalik/Random FA.

What do you guys think of Mihaliks play?

Certainly exceeding expectations. We probably won't get to see much more of him if Decker is back this week, but he's looking like he should at least be a capable backup. He looks pretty similar to Alejandro Villanueva on Pittsburgh. Mihalik isn't that good yet, but he looks like a similar type of player. Similar career trajectory as well. Changed from DL to OL in the NFL, getting a kind of late start, got on a team as a backup impressing teams with size and athleticism, shows well in relief of an injured player in front of him...he just needs to take that next step that Villanueva did. Honestly, a little competition at RT wouldn't be the worst thing for this team. I know they signed Wagner to a big deal, but he hasn't been playing up to the money so far. I would love to see if Mihalik could light a little fire in Wagner by pushing him for his spot at RT.

Good, I thought I might be missing something. I really thought the line would be in trouble but he’s been a surprise. It never hurts to have good backups and as you suggest he may be able to push at RT.

In my view you can never draft to many lineman, either side of the ball. We’ve seen what Stafford can do with protection so any improvement is major.

As far as RB’s go, i’m really liking Royce Freeman (AKA: Rolls Royce) from Oregon. Big running back, he is being compared to Herchel Walker. NFL scouts are saying he’s not as fast as most of the other running backs in the Draft. But those running backs are smaller. We need a thumper carrying the ball. Someone who runs through & over defenses. I’ve Checked out his video’s & he is scary good. He catches passes like a wide receiver & blocks like a guard. Being Oregon has a bad record, due to a poor defense, Royce is projected by NFL scouts as the 10th best back in the Draft. We have had small & fast runners. Bring in a back that can get the whole job done.  This is the guy i’m looking for in the Draft.
