You Are Wrong About Lamar Jackson - Warren Sharp

Yeah, let's ride this high until Lamar proves it was an aberration. The thing that most Ravens fans have been saying though is that his intangibles are what he's improved upon - his footwork, his mechanics, his reads, his ball placement/accuracy. Those things ALL showed yesterday, and the result was him lighting up a secondary that's not entirely terrible on paper.

This wasn't a bad QB throwing bad passes to wide open guys, or a bad QB throwing screen passes for touchdowns, he was making legit NFL throws down the field consistently. Those results will not happen every week, but the foundation that the results are built upon have been exponentially improved since last year.

I think technically those are tangibles ;), but yes, that's exactly it.

The takeaway isn't/shouldn't be that Lamar looks like a top XX QB now, after week 1 against the Dolphins. To be 100% clear, the bar when this thread was made a couple weeks ago was: "Can Lamar Jackson be a functional thrower?". The fact that he was able to make the physical act of delivering the ball to a receiver at the right spot and right time so well, even in a single game should be enough to at least start to challenge that narrative. Sure there will be games where the scheme confuses him into picks or the pressure makes him lose his mechanics and have awful days, but this is at least a baseline for what he is capable of when things go right.

Bill Barnwell/ESPN did a deeper analysis than any of us are capable of that challenges the notion that he was just completing easy throws to open receivers. Even throwing deep down to Brown with a step is NOT a high percentage accuracy throw to hit in stride. He was incredibly sharp Sunday. Maybe he is never that sharp again in a game, but the fact that he's capable of that type of game and that he put in the work to improve so dramatically in his mechanics is a good sign for this future.

First of all, there is one major thing people are overlooking

What was Harbaugh's comments about Jackson? That he was going to break the record for rushes by a QB ina single season that was set by RGIII.

He flat out said it wasnt his intent to allow LJ to pass often.

Ever think maybe Harbaugh said that purposefully to give other DC's bad info? Harbaugh does this stuff all the time. I think the fact that Lamar just ran 3 times for 6 yards while throwing 20+ times and posting a perfect passer rating says more than Harbaugh's comments in July, but I mean idk.

So what were people wrong about? Many of us said that "RG3" gameplan wasn't going to work and he wouldnt last the season.

That he can't throw a football? That he can't read a defense? Take your pick.

This reminds me of when Trubisky threw for 6 TDs against Tampa Bay last year.

Let's wait and see how this plays out, shall we?

Lamar struggles one week in his rookie year against a really good defense in the playoffs: "Yeah he's figured out. GG he's done"

Lamar comes back the next year with improved everything: "Now hold on maybe let's just wait and see..."

Wait...  we are comparing Jackson and Trubisky now? What an amazing one week jump, for my boy Lamar!

Last week it was Lamar vs Rosen.

Ravens fans and those who support Lamar outside the team can just forget about it. Those who wants to will twist and turn to prove their point about Lamar.

Once he has a bad game, they will be there, and then all the good games will not mean a thing. It is the antivaxx logic (both are not based on facts), and just like antivaxxers, it will be pointless to try and argue against those in here and in the twitterverse that Lamar could be anything they don't agree with.

It’s no different than you guys excusing the Chargers game and getting hyped about him torching maybe the worst team in nfl history.

Now there is a sample size of 9 games, Lamar looked bad in 1 of those.

When/if Lamar has looked good in 26 games and bad in 5, people like you will focus on the 5. Thats how it is.

Baker should only be judged on yesterdays game based on your logic.
