Forge
Should be noted that I somehow circumvent this exercise by creating a roster that I admit won't happen, but refused to change on the basis of a hypothetical trade that may never happen lol
Justone2
Interesting thing with McKinnon is if you want to put him on short term IR he has to be on the original 53. Makes the decision even more interesting.

Right now, I'm leaning as a complete toss up on which way he goes (short or long term). I don't think that it's a major issue as there are certainly guys that I'd be willing to expose temporarily to put him on the 53 and then IR. Nzeocha and Mayo would be the two that come to mind. I'd expose either of those guys and just take the chance that at least one of them doesn't catch on elsewhere right away.

Yeah i agree just makes the decision not as easy as it would be if you could just straight up put him on short term IR. Will be an interesting cut down day with all the difficult decision we have to make.

If any of these players are wanted to make the team, they make for simple cuts while holding onto guys who are going to go on short-term IR. Each have accrued at least 4 seasons, which means if they are cut, they are instantly free agents and not available to the waiver wire. Meaning, you sit them down, congratulate them for making the roster, explain that they are going to be technically cut until we can put McKinnon on IR, and then they will be signed back to the team. This way, it's not a player another team can just claim. You still run the risk of the player bolting for another opportunity since any team could contact them and sign them immediately, which is why you use the above mostly unattractive players rather than someone like Jason Verrett, who might entice another team to reach out with offers we won't want to match. I'm curious how that works for the contracts. Because if they are cut, their existing contract is terminated, and then you have to actually re-sign them. Which means that any guarantees escalate, and if they had a guaranteed base, we have to pay that out anyway. So do we then have to pay out both base salaries (The guaranteed on the first contract, along with whatever the base is on the second?)? I've never actually considered any of that. Not entirely sure, though if I remember correctly we previously did this with Kassim Osgood a few years back and purposely waited to sign him back until Week 2 so we could avoid the guarantee. Enjoy! At first, I thought it was going to be for Bosa...you know, because I do have a new jersey...in case you didn't know. So excited, hope he plays and gets his first sack this week. I too think he will have double digits his first season. His technique is just so refined for a rookie. CeeDee Lamb is very impressive and I would not mind the 9ers drafting him next year, but have you noticed our younger receivers? Like Charleston Rambo? Wow. Also, the Sooners have a very good center prospect in Creed Humphrey. 6' 5", 315 and squats 700 pounds. The guy turned heads with his blocking last season as a redshirt freshman. So, yes, your shout out got me to listen. Good work, gentlemen.
